Okay, so i got the bright idea (no pun intended) to make my chuki bumper grilles into HID projector lights, fogs, headlights whatever. So yeah, im just now starting this and have some halogen 'jectors coming to me... well 2 cadillac cts headlights, gotta strip the 'jectors off of em... so yeah, im using those as practice, and will eventually sell them if they turn out well..

So i started by gutting all light obstructing fins... and now i have this.... If all else fails, ill make them into raim air scoops lol... started with one so if i screw up, its not so bad.

Any suggestions about how i should go about this... i was planning on using fiberglass, maybe that will witstand the heat of headlights... Hoping that they look something like this...

What do you guys think? Its definately the most unique thing ive ever seen on a 240 IMO...

Why dont you just buy the Canadian DRL's and put some of those blue bulbs into them they will give you the look your going for and will look good.

I dont wanna sound arrogant.. but no, they wont. These particular ligths i have coming to me arent HID, theyre halogen, so i can get a general feel for how projectors work and how i can make them work for what i need them to do... With that in mind, im not going for ricer blue, and DRL's arent bright at all, im looking for something functional here... oh yeah, and this would easily be the most unique thing ive seen.

Well i dont want to sound like a dick either but you do know that just randomly pointing the lights aint gunna do shit. And are you going to be making a whole new housing for the projector? You have to be able to make some sort of lense for it to and that too will have to be thought out and actually work unless you want the light to be scattered everywhere. And bythe way im not the one who said you have HID's the threads name has HID in it and those are blue. Good luck with the project though.

Not all HID's are blue, it really depends on the temperature of the lights you get.

The idea of doing an HID retrofit on my S13 has crossed my mind, I just don't have the time to do something so involved.

yes, im using the chuki grille as a mold, and ill be using some ebay 4"x6" h4 conversion housings, ive test fitted 4x6 headlights in the grille, and theyre just about .5 inches too tall, so ill trim it down, and start hacking away at the housing to fit the projectors, once they come in. Also, as far as aiming, im still at the drawing board on that one, but i have a few ideas based upon normal headlight aiming mechanisms. And when i do convert them to HID projectors, im going to get bmw projectors, which are self leveling projectors. Im putting halogens in these for the time being, so i can get a little experience with projectors in general, as im diving feet first into this area. I was thinking of using thick lexan as a lens to keep debris from scuffing the projector, but after test fitting for the 4x6's, i think ill be able to trim those lenses down to fit the housings. Ill keep you guys posted.

dude, as i said on club240 YOU really want to do an hid retro in the 4x6 lights and get some fog projectors to go in the bumper. as others mentioned you will need to fully weather proof the cadillac lights by making a rear housing and a front lense (very time consuming). i suggest you sell the cadillac low beam projectors as they are probably too large to fit in bumper slit correctly

here, i will copy my other two posts from club240 so others can add on/ back me up

these are e46 bixenon projectors (high and low in one projector)mounted inside 4x6 headlamps that someone on hidplanet retrofitted (for a 4runner maybe?) i forgot
i know i had suggested e46 singles before but bixenons are do-able aswell.
look at this link too, baller ass projectors (my rx330 projectors in my kouki are better though :p )
these are tsx projectors someone else retrofitted into sealed beam housings:

tsx projectors are single xenon though.
i suggest you browse hidplanet and figure out what projectors will fit/you can use "

if you really have to have them in the fog cutout area cover the projector front (the lense will pit and kill the sharpness of beam /outupt/colorband if you get projectors that throw a colorband)

"and make sure you buy real hid projectors and bulbs, not halogens with a drop in kit.
if you really want to make use of your space/money get some fog projectors (yellow preffered) and mount the hid projectors inside the headlamp housings.

Well, see i was going to use the halogens jsut as a guinea pig. Once i get a feel and get a little better with projectors, ill sell the old ones, and make new HID projectors in the fog cutouts. Um, as far as making a lens and enclosure, im going to hack away at 4x6 housings to make them fit down there...

yea, im not 100% sure... but it's not like you can just cut glass...i think you need special tools and probably some kind of water cooled cutting wheel, or something like that...what were you gonna use, a hack saw? i can almost guaruntee that glass will break if you try to cut it with a hand powered saw.....

there really is no write up for doing projector retrofits...i've done two of them in Preludes, was gonna do one for my camry as well, but sold the camry...right now i'm just doin my S13.5, so no need for a projector retrofit...basically you need to be able to take apart the headlights, remove the housing, cut a hole large enough for the projector in the reflector portion, mount it, make sure you don't cut the physical housing itself or it won't seal properly and you'll get crazy fogging in the lights, and then just put it back together...if you mount it correctly in the reflector aiming will be the same as stock.

and oh, btw, some people Do do projector retrofits, but they're expensive, so people occasionally don't want to pay for it, try it out, waste about $3-400 on new headlights and then try it again... :p meh, but that's my own personal experience and it was $500 for OEM Prelude lights :( otherwise, check out Racing Gear on Nissanclub.com, he's done MULTIPLE headlight retrofits...

that's one he's working on right now, i tried searching for his old threads, but all of the pics were posted through photobucket and removed now :( sorry, i tried :p hehe

I just have to bump this. Those lights are sexy!
I am new to this, and really want to do this with my s13 zenki.

I'm wondering. When you have mounted these lights. Is it both lights for near use, and nighttime driving lights(For use on country roads and when it's dark?) I have no idea what those are called in english, but it is standard on cars in europe(and us i think)

haha dang i havent checked htis forum in quite a while sorry guys. the setup is rx330 projectors with clear lense swap and custom shield, audi ballasts, and oem phillips 4100k bulbs. the color you see is being viewed in the colorband... has nothing to do with bulb color temp. i spent around $350 on my setup. ill get some down the road night shots in a few weeks when i have the time.

i really wish i had done a write up when i did the retro. anyways im probably going to do a set of zenki s14 lamps with custom formed lexan lenses when i get some time/ funds.
