so my fastback have this gas smell while im driving, got better recently tho...
sometimes when i turn the a/c on, or recirculate air, it gets worse
and theres so pressure when i open the gas cap, that psshhh sound
and if i fill up the tank full, gas leaks out....

im thinking its got something to do with the fuel line? those rubber hose?
thats all i got from searching around

is your fuel pump secured all the way? theres a plate that goes over the fuel pump in the trunk. is it closed all the way? what about the plate right above the fuel pump, is it closed all the way? do you suspect a leaky injector caused by a faulty o-ring?

Is there a huge rust hole in the back,(like actually next to the muff on the inner fender) right by the muffler and maybe yer not burnin fuel for some reason?

Do you mean, when you top off your gas, or when you fill it til the thing clicks, and put it away? Cause when I top mine off it reeks inside.

Any other bad exhaust leaks gettin in thru holes or somethin?

i havnt found any rust, and this car have been in cali pretty much its whole life...so i guess prob there would not be any

yeah next day i bought the car, i filled it up all the way to the top, until it clicks, IIRC its like 14.9 gallon or something, then u see gas leaking out of the tank, dripping on the ground, mainly on the tow hook side(not the exhaust side)

hrm.... that doesnt sound right. you might want to inspect the gas tank.

Sounds like one of your rollover check valves is leaking. There are two check valves on top of the tank to prevent leakage in the event of a rollover, sounds like one of them is leaking. That's why you don't leak gas if you stop short of the top of the tank. As for the air pressure when you open the gas cap, that is normal on a fuel injected car. There are valves that will add and vent air to and from the gas tank as the level drops to maintain proper air pressure. They are the evaporative emissions vent/purge valve and pressure valve. That's why your check engine light can come on if you don't tighten the gas cap, it indicates a fault with one of these valves because air will leak past the cap.

A friend of mine had this problem with his 240, it turned out that there was a hole in the top of his gas tank the let the fumes go directly into the car...Whenever he filled it up, it would leak a lil bit...I would suggest pulling the tank out and checking it for holes...

have you figured out this problem yet? if not, i would suspect leaky injectors. i also recommend looking at all the fuel lines under the car and see if there is any leakage of some sort. hope you find your problem.

not yet, that stupid floor jack i bought cant jack the car high enough to put the stands under, and i dont want to get under the car without the stands

i dont see any gasket, around that pump, thats how i got the car, never opened that part up until this week
