A year ago I moved to another state and my boyfriend sold his 240 to come live with me. I promised him that when we had the money he was gonna get a 240 again. Just recently we finally bought one. He is constantly working on his car and is obsessed with it. I bought him a couple things already but I want to do something BIG for him for Christmas. I know its early but I want to have time to surprise him with something crazy. I don't know much about cars.. I've been reading and researching so I can be a supportive girlfriend and share his hobby.

Anyways.. its my first time on this forum so I apologize if this is posted in the wrong place.
Any suggestions on what to buy him? I want it to be something he can look at and say "Damn I've got the best girlfriend" ;)

Please help!! :feedback:

Hola, welcome to the forums. You did kinda post in the wrong section but its ok.

Lets start by telling us what you already bought him and a budget.

I suggest
-shift knob if he has a manual (anywhere from $15-50)
- hub and quick release package. (They're like $300-400 for everything you need)
-shift boot (cheap and it'll increase his comfort level in the car a little)
-black seat covers
-s14 seats. They are a lot comfier and you will like it as well. (50-$100) on Craigslist
-money. The perfect gift besides being frisky with him
-maybe some tools if he doesn't have any. Craftsman has some good sets at sears for like 150-200
-a jack and some jack stands will run you about 50-60 at sears

That's all that comes to mind right now

Turbo!! Everyone loves turbos!!

Ok, I'm just kidding, please don't get him a turbo. Yet. We'd need to know more about the car. But in all seriousness. College kid has some great ideas. I'd definitely look at getting him a shift knob if the car is standard. F you want to go really high end. Check out Momo Racing or Nismo :)

he does have a great girlfriend. Lucky him. my girlfriend always tells me that eventually she'll help me get another supra since i had to sell mine. that'll be the day.... love 240's though. thats why i got one. :)

but yes, anything you know about the car would help us know more idea's to help you with!

Welcome dudette! That is WAY cool of you~

I am blessed with a supportive GF too :)

Can you post a pic of the car, or maybe tell us a little bit of what you know he may already have for it?

Some info on the car would be helpful. Is it for pleasure or drift? Does he have any specific goals? Budget? I've bought my boyfriend many presents for his car but we both have 240's so it's pretty easy for me to pick something out that goes with his build plans.

A nice wheel and quick release is always a nice present. I bought my bf a custom painted grip royal wheel last Christmas and he loves that thing.

if your willing to spend in the 2300$ range get him an sr swap.
800-1500 lsd
600-1200 coil overs
500-4000 rims
200-600 one piece drive shaft
racing seats

now if you were my girl all i would want is a surprise, do a sexy photo shoot with the car and give him the pictures.

lets see what else one time my ex custom made me a shift knob boot she knitted and i thought it was supper unique and looked good

the possibilities are endless even if you don't know much about cars

take a look at the car and see what looks like shit and replace it.

mostly for more help,
year of car
list of mods it already has
pictures would really help.
does he want to drift, drag, make it vip, or just daily beat

Thanks guys! Umm did some investigating last night lol.

The car is stock I guess its called red top sr20det? Only thing he has changed is the custom piping and front mount inter cooler. Oh & a SARDS fuel regulator. I bought him some basic things to get the car running right..and two gauges that he has on the dash.

While looking threw his phone I noticed most of the pictures he has are of Nigel Petrie's S13. So thats what he likes.

Everything needs to be changed. Car needs to be lowered.. and I guess a front conversion too. The list is long that's why I want to get some idea's on whats more important/wanted.

Budget: $500- $700.

He wants it for drifting.. Thanks again!

Imo the best thing that you could get him would be something cosmetic. This way he will be able to see it everyday and notice it every time he gets in the car and really appriciate an awesome gf. My vote would be on a nrg quick release, short hub and wheel. Then a buch of little things to accent what ever color the car is or whatever he wants to paint it.

Knowing that, I suggest you buy him a differential. They're like 40-50 and find someone to weld it for you. Shouldn't cost over 100. He needs it for drifting.

You can also buy him a cheap drift body kit. Stay away from chaser aero /aerokits.net

You can probably get him a cheap set of drift spares. Look at his rims. Does he have 4 bolts or 5? Just look for s14 se wheels if he has 5 bolts or look for s13 se wheels if he only has 4. You can prob get s14 se wheels for around 150-200 with decent tires on them from Craigslist. S13 ones should be cheaper

Can't think of anything else, just woke up. Ill chime in again later.

Redtop eh? Good stuff!

A little engine bling is always nice to see when we open the hood... but "functional" bling is even better:

Get him a lightweight pulley set- they are cheap and come usually in red, silver or blue. No real difference in quality here, only price... Here is a link: Google

Also, you could get him a polished coolant overflow tank: Circuit Sports S13 Aluminum Coolant Reservoir Tank - CRT-0013-GD - Circuit Sports

Does he already have an aftermarket radiator? If not, they are a GREAT upgrade for drifting: Nissan Infiniti 180SX/SILVIA S13 SR20DET MT KOYO SPORT COPPER RADIATOR : Amazon.com : Automotive

and if you get him a radiator, a low temp thermostat makes a nice little stocking stuffer ;) Nissan 240SX NISMO Low Temperature Thermostat

A Good HID kit would be great too. The second biggest factor in my car accident was the fact that I couldnt see jack shit.
I assume he has the popup headlights, with the kit he should get a new housing. If he has a silvia front end and you just get him the ballasts, a headlight restoration kit is good too.

Speaking of Silvia conversions, there is one on my local craigslist for around $800.

Window tint is under $200 if he wants that.

Talk to Robert from zerolift. He can probably get you a decent brand of coilovers. They will most likely cost right at the top of your budget or like $150 more, meaning a total of about $850.

Also, does he have anything broken inside the car? I'm talking about the random little plastics inside.

Windshield wipers are probably a good idea. It's actually really important to have a good set. It also shows you care.

My plan of attack would be
-windsheild wipers $30
-4 or 5 lug Se wheels with decent tires should run you 150-250
-get him some pretty locking lug nuts $50
-S14 seats in decent condition should be $150 at the most. My friend picked his up for $80
-Hid kit is like $100-150
-Throw in like a car Detailing kit for $50?

He should be very happy with this. I would be happy with just a girlfriend who even cares to mention my hobby. Good luck

So many great idea's!! The coilovers sound like something he would love.. I was looking at some Greddy Coilovers. Whats your opinion on those?

As for anything broken in the car, the driver seat sun visor broke off and the dash is cracked (but doesn't that happen to all of them?). I want to wow him.. with something a little more permanent.

I never thought parts shopping was this fun. I'm actually thinking about building my own 240.. that would be his ultimate surprise lol :tongue4:

Get back to me on the greddy coilovers plz!

I was going to say coil-overs are something you can go wrong with if you get a bad brand, but Greddy is a quality brand. I was about to suggest replacements for broken interior parts myself. A rip in the upholstery or other small component you have to look at every day can drive you nuts, and replacement parts are had to make a mistake with.

GReddy coils are really nice. If it's the ones I am thinking of, they have an electronic stiffness adjustment you can do on the fly (adjuster made for S14, but adaptable to S13 IIRC)... But if he wants to drift the car, they might be a little much price-wise for a bunch of un-needed functionality. They usually go for upwards of $1500. A good set of $800-900 new coils would be fine. If you DO start narrowing your search for coils down, this is a great place to ask whether or not the ones you are looking at are worth a shit.

As far as something "permanent" goes... unless it is physically welded or molded to the car; nothing else is really permanent lol. However- Seeing as how it's a 20 year old car, a master bushing kit & some subframe bushings would be stellar as far as being on the car forever goes. It replaces every single old, brittle, worn-out bushing with nice new polyurethane bushings. The end result is a tight, almost new-feeling, slightly stiffer & much more responsive ride. I re-did all mine recently and the before/after difference was amazing!

Here is the one I used: RS-R 77-N010 D1 Spec Polyurethane Energy Bushing Kit Nissan S13

and I used these subframe bushings: Energy Suspension 7.1117R Rear Sub frame Bushings for 95-98 Nissan 240sx Red

^^It says the subframe bushings are for S14, but they fit perfectly in the S13 (my 10yr old daughter put mine in haha)- you just dont pop the cups out (he should know what I mean)... and there is an install vid on Youtube if he needs it lol.

However, if the car will not be daily driven and only drifted, I recommend solid subframe bushings: SPL Parts PRO V2 Solid Subframe Bushings Kit S13 S14

Also chaser aero has the worst fucking customer service regardless. Pre purchase everything is peachy but after they get your card information you are done

Whoever is behind that username above, get the fuck outta here.
