hey guys, so heres the deal. Im a high school senior and about to graduate. Im wanting to get into Southern illinois university and major in auto technology. And i was thinking that it would be a good idea for me to buy a car that i could work on and stuff. So i want to buy a 240sx. I was originally thinking of getting a '95 but i found a '90. The only problem is that the engine doesnt work which isnt much of a big deal with me because i want to swap the engine out for a rb25det. the body and interior is in very good condition. The asking price is around 2700. do you guys think that this is a good deal or not? I thought that i would find out what u guys thought about it befor i made my desision. oh and if you guy could help me out with telling me if im making the right decision with my major and stuff that would b helpful. I really want to open up my own tuner shop when i graduate. Any help at all would be appreciated.

2700 for a 90 with a blown engine. That thing better come with a year of free sex from Jessica Alba too. Damn. They're not worth much more than 2500 with a mint body and a strong engine, I am thinking more along the lines of 1500, if that. I guess it depends on what is wrong with the engine.

I bought my 93 for 750$ with an engine that might run. That my friend is a rip off. Keep shopping around my friend. That has to be the worst price I have seen in a while.

^^Agreed the whole way round. Mine runs strong, drives decent and has a beat body and I've got like $500 in it. for a super clean rust free shell with a blown engine I paid $75 in cash. That car you're looking at might be worth $600-700...tops.

ok i have another question for you guys then ill get out of your hair. lol How much would u pay for a '97 240sx? the car has 140,000 miles on it. and the interior and exterior is good. Oh and i also found a '95 240sx that has around the same miles on it but it has a few minor dents and it needs some new brakes. but the price on this is $1700. which one would be better to get?

it depends what you mean by "needs new brakes." Id' say 1700 is a good price for a faithful running s14.

ok guys i lied i have one more question....i havent called on the car yet but in the event that it is an automatic, what would i need to make it a manual? and how hard would it be? and also i plan on getting a rb25 so what would i need to make the car a manual?

Research on the RB. Because IIRC the RB trans is different from the KA trans. Oher than that, clutch pedal, and manual brake pedal assemblies, clutch master and lines. Maybe other stuff, I can't really remember.

I vote the S14 Zenki. Especially for 1700. I paid 2400 for my S14 and it had a bad main seal and the window didn't roll down. It also had 155k miles. If you like the 97 better, and its around 3-4k, I say go for it.

As for the 5 speed conversion. You have to change the pedal assembly, the brake master cylinder, the shift boot, and I believe that you need a 5 speed driveshaft.

Good Luck
