Well, I get enough questions about my own swap and what progress I've made (if any) that I figured I might as well start my own thread. This way I don't need to hijack go240's progress thread.

go240's SR swap thread

Thread is getting quite large... this should help (added 8/21)

Just a few random photos of the car before the swap. I didn't have to do anything to the car, although I bought a wingless/wiperless hatch to replace my orignial hatch with that horrible foam wing. The fender had minor damage so I picked up a replacement as well. :thumbsup

About 5-6 months ago I put in about half a tank of premium, and parked her for the swap. I didn't actually start the process of pulling the motor until Dec because of work.

Feburary 2005 Look at all that progress! :eek4:

During the removal of the KA, I had some spare time to work on the SR20. I removed all the parts I wouldn't need.. AIV, heatsheilds, etc. I also took the turbo off to check it for shaftplay, etc.

I also pulled the tranny to figure out if I was going to be able to keep the clutch it came with until I gathered the funds to replace it. Turns out I need the funds now... :eek4:

Exedy Stage 2? So, I'm trying to decide what clutch/flywheel combo I want to go with. I'm going to try and see if this flywheel can be machined and reused.

Finally, the damn KA is out of the car! :fruitbask

The only trouble I had with pulling the KA, is I could not get the pass side motor mount to come off. Instead of stripping the bolts, I just unbolted the mount from the motor. It got in the way of pulling the motor out, but nothing serious. Now I'll just take the impact wrench to that bolt. :heyhey

Good ol SOHC, 212k miles and still ran strong. Needed a new clutch though...

While I wait for parts for the SR20, I need to bust out the Simple Green and clean this dirty engine bay. Wish I had a truck to take it down to the carwash to use a pressure washer. Maybe, I'll borrow one from work.. hmmmm

Yeah, many tool rental places you can rent power washers. If I had a truck, I would have taken my car down to the local carwash and used to coin wash. I'll probably just borrow one of the gasoline powered ones from work this weekend and see what I can do. There is alot of buildup in some spots.

About the jacks, I just used the edges by the wheels. Normally I'd use these points...

I better bolt my turbo to my ass, because I have a lot of catching up to do!! Be sure and wet the outside of your fenders down, I have seen some of the stronger degreasers leave spots on the clear. When I was detailing, we would use some of Auto Magics Spoke cleaners (wheel acid) on white cars. You really want to dillute the piss out of it and spray everything down with water first. Spray the wheel acid every where and scrub it with a bug sponge. That engine bay will come out new, guaranteed!! And kids always remember to use gloves and brush your teeth after every meal!

thanks for that pic. I have my jack stands a bit further up where the material is thicker on the front of the car but my rear stands are just in also on the frame rails from where the jack points are on the car.

I thought about just taking off the fender just in case. What I may do is just tape up some drop cloth just incase. Where can I buy this stuff? I used some simple green, and amazingly most of the crap does come off with a little scrubing.

So, besides money/parts what is holding you up?

I just took a pic from the FSM I have. :thumbsup

:rotflmao Hah Hah...ahem. I think you ought to practice on your routine. No actually, I did get a good laugh out of that statement.
Check out www.automagic.biz you should be able to find a dealer. This stuff is way better than what you find at the parts store. You might what to call some local detail shops, they might sell you some.
I have been out of detailing for a little while now, but my old boss (who is a very good friend of mine too), has his own detail shop. He might have found a better way to clean it. You can call him at work Finishline Auto Detail 360 566 1006. His name is Marcus (if you call him Slegehammer it will win you brownie points...he is hard on all his toys). Tell him that Doowie sent you. He IS the MAN, and I am not just saying that. Everyone that has anything nice in Vancouver brings their cars to him. Everytime I stop in there he has old muscle cars, Porsches, BMW's, Escalades...etc. He has helped many gentlemen take trophies home from car shows.
Tell him what I told you about the Spoke cleaner from Auto Magic. If I remember I will try and call him tomorrow

? Haha.. money and parts is not what has been holding me up this whole time. For the most part it's been work, and all the other things going on that I need to spend time doing. I could just order all the parts I want for my car, but I can't stand it when I have parts lying around that I don't have time to install. I won a complete Infinity Kappa compents system for my car in the summer of 03. Still not completely installed...

If I can I'll try and call when I get home. If you do find out anything let me know. The weather looks HORRIBLE this sat... 2 inches of rain, wind and thunderstorms. So, I might not be able to get the car out in the driveway to pressure wash it. If there is a break in the weather on Sunday I may be able to do it.

Well, once you have the photos online you just link them like this:

In the brackets you'd add IMG in the beginning, and /IMG at the end.

I should be buying some webspace this week, so if you needed a place to host photos of your car for your thread, just let me know.

alright! that shit will be sweet. you're lucky, your main fusebox is intact. mine kinda exploded into a mess of crusty plastic and wire. are you going to paint the bay or just clean it?

Really? When you removed it, or it came that way?

Well, I'm going to clean it the best I can. I can sometimes be real picky about stuff like this, so I'm sure I'm going to want to at least touch up a few things.

I ran across a company that sold OEM paint in spraycans. Can't seem to find the link though...

spray the bay black... it won't take too much time, and a black engine bay always looks neater/cleaner than any colored one.
I've thought about it, but I might get my car resprayed the original color after it's finished. Or to a point where the exterior is done.

I saw this post and saw "henry's Sr20/240 Progress" and was like what the I already swaped my motor or who's spying on me with the new engine build up!
That's right! I forgot someone else on this board is named Henry. It's very odd to meet someone else with the same name. Now if your not over 60, or Asian I'd be even more surpised. I've met a few asian Henry's. Nice car BTW!

I will talk to Marcus on Saturday, so I should post Sunday on anything that I find out. Money really isnt holding me up, I left myself a decent budget. Buit those are only meant to be broken.
Anyways body work is really holding me up. Thats why I really just want to start with a better car. With the motor I could just run out and buy parts that are at hand, but I really like to do my research first. I just dont want to start mixing internals to find out that there is better product out there.
I havent been able to find many posts about the internals of the SR. I called a few of the bigger SR companies, but they were vague. They seemed more like order takers than really techincal support. "the CP pistons are better than Wiseco because they cost more". WTF!! That doesnt do it for me. If I know more about the product than the guys who is selling it does, then I am worried.
So basically where I am at is, I am trying to do research with some companies that I dealt with in the ATV business. Like Web Cam, JE Piston and Kibblewhite. I, still have relations with these companies and I believe that I can build a better motor than some of these quacks out there. Hats off to Heavy throttle though, those guys treated me good and were very helpful. I am not all that impressed with the EZ install kit that I got from them though, quality is a little on the cheap side. I am not going the cheap route.

Well, the weather turned out to be just as bad as they said it would. So, maybe tomorrow I'll get to work cleaning out the bay. Looked at a few different engine degreasers at a local auto part store, but didn't buy anything. Probably, go back tomorrow and just pick something.

Did you get my PM about the 3, 240's in Portland?
