Wassup everybody. I am here to learn about a car that I will be getting within a year. I currently drive a 2006 Pontiac GTO. I am a college student and my car has tried to be broken into 2 times now. That kind of shit is not going to cut it. I am going to get a 89-04 240 as a beater car. I love the fact that the drivetrain is pretty stout and the cars have a lot of potential. I can drift allright in the GTO but I am putting around 380whp down. I am excited to get my hands on a 240 and eventually put an SR20 into it.

Shit I meant to say a 94, my bad. I wonder if that LS motor would fit.

Yes it will fit.

I can put you in a s13 right now for 600 bucks and an s14 for 1400 in NE Tn.

Depending on where yo uare going its no wonder your GTO has gotten broken into twice. At ETSU I had my 300zx all of a week before someone broke into it and did 2800 worth of damage trying to steal a 30 dollar cd player. They got caught luckily, fucking assholes. I did appreciate the 2800 check I got from it though :thumbsup.

That sucks. What kind of condition is the S13 in and is a twin cam motor?

Hey man, the LS motorswap is becoming increasingly popular among 240 owners, but some of the purists hate on it B/C it isn't a "JDM Tyte" engine made by Nissan. I personally don't care, as long as it doesn't look tacky and is fast, so you can make your own opinion. :thumbsup

I do think it would be pretty sick to have an LS* motor dropped into one but I think I would enjoy going the SR20 route just because it is something different. It would be sick to make an LS7 work though.:1bowdown

The site for some reason won't come up? It might be that I don't have 20 post yet? It said I did not have permission to acess the page.

I am from Franklin, TN which is just south of Nashville. I really like the Goat its got more than enough power for me. I have intake, catless mids, exhaust and programmer. It has not trouble spinning them through the first three gears. The interior is really nice and the ride is also. All around it is a real good car. I just whish it had some stiffer springs and shocks from the factory because with the independant rear end it wheel hops pretty bad.

I also have a couple of quick questions about the drivetrain. I know I could probably search and get these questions answered, but I need 20 damn post. Is the rearend on these cars a solid rear axle or is it independant. Also I heard the axles and rear can take about 500hp, is this true? Also, I read that the driveshaft is a 2 piece design. How tough is it? I also read that the clutch is good for about 200-250 hp which isn't bad. So, basically what I am trying to ask is: Is the drivetrain really this tough because if it is that is awesome and I won't have to spend the money to upgrade.

Hey RB, you're the greatest man. I really appreciate the promo on mine. As an update for our new guy here, I have sold the S13 to a friend of mine so that is gone. The S14, however, is still on the block if you are interested. Does it need some work? Yes, it does. I can give you my number if you want.

The driveshafts on the 240s are two piece and are fairly tough. The KA can hold somewhere in the ball park of 350hp on stock internals, but the S13 (91-94)DEs were a little more aggresive than the S14s are because of the camshafts. There are some threads on here about this so search. I'll be keeping an eye on the thread if you're interested.

Later.

Thanks for the offer but I have wanted an s13 for awhile. I would love to see the thread about the differences of the cams between the s13,s14. I will do a search about it. Is that 350hp to the rear wheels or flywheel?

#18 ·
^^ that HP figure varies dramatically with the condition of the motor, BTW i dont know of any place that sells aftermarket halfshafts for the rears of our cars... there is a 600+ HP SR S14 in town with stock suspension subframe.

Thats more than my car can take, thats pretty unreal that the drivetrain on this car is this stout.:1bowdown

Thanks for putting that in, Addict. I was in a hurry and didn't think to mention about the condition of the engine.

Another thing about using two S13 exhaust cams is that you need some adjustable cam gears. The exhaust-turned- intake cam needs the time retarded 3-4 teeth depending. Another thing you can look into is using the E pistons in the DE block, or just swapping the DE head onto an E block (this route you need to take the oil squirters from the DE and install into the E) and then you're looking at about 11:1 compression.

I have decided that I am going to get the car and eventually spring for a complete swap with the ball bearing turbo. I can't really rember the name of it right now but I think the turbo is a GT28.. or something like that. The package I want puts 300 down at the wheels which is probably all I want in a car that ways around 2600lbs. That should be enough to get me in the mid 11's I think.

The car I decided on is a 92-94 240sx. I want to do a little of both. I really don't know a whole lot about drifting but I can drift pretty well in my GTO. If I drift it is probably going to be on the streets and not at a event. Now if I do drag I am going to do it at the track. I am defiatly going to get coilovers; I don't know if that is the best for drag racing or not? What it boils down to is I want a car that can drift if I want it to but also do a little drag also.:thumbsup

#26 ·
Coilovers are you're better bet for all around suspension control. My suggestion is to do the drifting on back roads (or better yet empty parking lots) and be VERY cautious about it because cops are usually just looking for any reason to pull someone over. Not only that, but I'd like to keep the 240s out of too many cops' scrutiny.

#27 ·
Yea I would definatly not be drifting on the main roads at all, but I do know some convenient places to wear it out.:dancingco While we are on the subject of drifting Im pretty sure I want a 2 way limited slip, but what is a cheap brand that a lot of people use because everyone I see is like 800+ dollars. If that is what it cost to do the swap I will though.:yummy

Whatever you do, do not get an OBX. There was a guy around here that bought one and, to make a really long story short, it ended up with OBX sending him his money back and telling him not to buy another one of their diffs but refusing to pay for all the mechanics bills and another tranny.

I would pick up a Kaaz or a Nismo, both good but the Kaaz slightly better from everything that I've been told. Or you can go the cheap way and weld an open diff. There are pros and cons to this as this link describes:

http://www.240sxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89454&highlight=Welded+diffs

In the end it's a judgement call. I'd pick up a open diff out of a salvage yard, weld it, and just swap the diffs out when you feel like drifting.

I'll give that a look. The Kaaz for the GTO id close if not 2 grand so I am not going to complain about the cost too much.
