Let’s assume you pass your driving test to obtain a drivers license. Will the 240 be a hand me down? What I mean is will you get the car for free? So that the 1k you save up will be your "play" money for your car. If that's the case depending on the condition of the car you should do maintenance first before modifying your car. I also recommend the first thing you should do is to get use to your car, then slowly upgrade your car. Every modification done to your car will change its characteristics.

i am in absolutely no way going to be negative towards you or try to offend you. sorry if you take it that way.

do you realize that by time your are old enough to get a car and legally drive it by yourself the newest USDM s13 you are going to be able to find will be 16 years old with an extreme 20 years! it is already hard to find a clean s13 now, i cant imagine what it will be like in 3 or 4 years from now with drifting and the popularity of the car in general. the only positive i can see for you is that someone will be selling their modified car for a good price.

in 3 to 4 years i bet you will be able to pick in some fairly good cars for a great price to start your automotive addiction.

i still cant believe your 13 years old and on a 240sx forum thought but i guess that comes with the widespread use of computer and the internet.

well Beginner_00, having a 240 or any car is like taking care of a pet, If u don't fed it or give it shots it will die on ya. So, I say when u do get the car, get a job 1st and then worry about upgrading it. cuz with $1k you can't really do that
much, I mean It barely get u nice rims. So, get a job 1st young buddy, and after u save enuff $$$ then U can fix up the 240, by that time your get more knowlege of cars and then know what to get for it.
good luck.

Thank you for all the support and tips. No offense take TwoFortySX. If you get or read the new issue of Modification MAG you would know that Portland,Or is where there is a lot of 240's for sell and i live in Springfield,Or. Oh ya i will when i get my car work on the maintainence first that is a big help.

Thank you all

Dude chill out bro. Shit I was driving since I was that age and everyone here probably had some experience as well since they were young. This forum is welcomed to everyone so be nice to him! :devilfork

But I do agree with Moriar by the time you do have your license there will be other cars out there and I must say better ones. Dont know if money is an issue with you or w/e since your parents are buying you a car or even teasing you, I sugguest you get a 00 year model and then buy a 240 shell and build it yourself. That always sounds like fun. :heyhey

Hmmmmm....ok.

Just worry about getting outta school and getting good grades... by that time you wont want a 240 anymore anyways since "drifting" has destroyed every good 240 on the planet by then.

You'll want a different car by the time you can drive, just learn as much as you can about the basic mechanics of an automobile, and most of all, have a great day

ok, well im 15 now and like many other ppl said on here when your 13 you really dont know wut u want, when i was 13 i wanted a honda and i was "all show no go" now i know i want a 240 and have known for about a year, and when i get it i really couldnt care less about a flashy paint job, a body kit and a gigantic wing. i had no idea wut a intercooler, maf, downpipe etc... were but now i have spent ALOT of time on here and they have changed my views on wut i want to do with my car when i get it. this is a good site and u can learn alot, but make sure u use the seach button, it is your friend!

when u do get ur car in my opinion just keep it maintained, fix any thing that needs to be fixed and learn how to drive your car and know its limits before you start modding it. make sure have the money because owning a car isnt cheap, im gussing u have access to tools and materials needed to work on a car? and wut made u pick a 240 for ur first car??

This is direct - not a flame:

1. Get any car.
2. Learn how to drive.
3. Learn how to maintain the car. When you learn maintenance, at the same time you will learn methods that will make modifying the car easier.
4. Learn how to drive, again.

Honestly, as much as I love 240sx's (s13 and s14) - they're not a good car to begin with, especially if you're a new, inexperienced driver. RWD is a different feel compared to your grocery-getter Honda FF, and - like posted above - if you get a 240sx, it will not be new at all. It will range from 10 to 17 years old by the time you can drive, so there will be a lot of things to fix or maintain on it.

Good luck.

Yea, I myself am about to purchase an S14 for only $4,500.

The people that i'm getting the car from, are good people. I go to school with their son, Barry, who happend to just get a 350Z as a birthday present. He is pretty well set for everything. He was planning on driving the s14, but he got the 350, anyways..

Welcome to the forums, and the best advice I can give you right now is get a job. The way i'm getting my s14 is to pay $300 a month for it, considering I only work part time, I get about $400 a month, roughly..So more then half of it is going to pay for the car. I'm not going to be able to get any upgrades to the car for a while..

Anyways, just get a job once you get your license..bum a car off your parents for a while, like i'm doing :p Nothing wrong with it, just as long as you get your own by the time you are 18 . I'm only 17 and about to purchase my first car =D

Hey I am 14 so you dont have to listen to me but there right, dont get me wrong get a 240sx I want one too, but take a look at S14's they are a little more new so that mite help you out but also the s13 will help you to get to know your car when you get it with all the work you have to put into it. Also what kind of s13, a coupe or fastback and also are you going with a engine swap and going to use a SR, RB, CA or keeping the KA.
