hey, i just got a1990 240sx and when ever you accelerate when driving it makes this kind of hissing sound. It only does it when your driving and not when your parked. And it only happens when gas is given. just wondering what it could be im thinking a pin hole in the exhaust or something.
thanks

hissing sounds like an exhaust leak to me. also, if your in a gear the engine can't rev like it can when you are in neutral, like 20mph in 3rd, and things like that where the rpms are real low you wont be in the powerband and it makes a "hissing" sound just from air turbulence. Check your exhaust, but otherwise get used to it

you could pass it off as a turbo spooling up...

...wow, my first post in a month and its useless

See where its coming from and get back to us. It could be anything. Loose hose, exhaust leak, bad intake gasket, etc.

sounds like an intake/vacuum leak try some soapy solution for finding leaking in plumbing. If it idles fine and accelerates fine then it's not really a biggie.

Check to make sure there are no cracks in your intake plumbing and vacuum lines.

+1 It also sounds like a vacume leak to me. How well does your car Idle?
