if its not oem, its illegal. The people I know who have sr,rb,ka-t swaps haven't been pulled over because they don't drive like an ass.
True, people around here who think there the shit because they have jdm motors drive freaking stupid! I live near LAX airport and i do have a Sr20 on my 240sx kinda make me not want to drive it because we do have checkpoint every other week or so.
ok my question is how the fuck do people drive skylines in cali? i know a guy who has a rb26dett in his and hes been pulled over and nothing?!?!

He gives good head??? nom nom nonm
its because they have to get it cali refereed. you can have a skyline, its just that before you get it, it goes to a ref, and they downgrade the fuck out of it. (because the cop cars cannot keep (imo)) anyway, one way around it is getting it refereed and then swapping it out and putting in another skyline motor that has everything done to it. that way, you dont have the downgrades lol...
would this be the same with a 240? err 180 from japan? ? how do the cops know? when u get pulled over do uhave some special document or something??

I find it funny they'd do something like that just because of it being what it is. There are Vettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Vipers and other "American Muscle" cars out there that can dust a Skyline off any day of the week tuned by Hennessey and Lingenfelter (which by the way has a Vette that does 0-60 in 1.9) and they don't bother them at all. (I'm a huge Skyline and GT-R fan so don't get it twisted I know what my beloved is capable of too.)

It is kind of a double standard of sorts. They complain about our exhaust, but there are Harleys and V engines out there that are flat out deafening and they don't get tickets. They're COOL and Johnny Law just admires and gives them a hall pass.

I work in historic Downtown Charleston, SC, with buildings hundreds of years old, hell the first brick house in Charleston was built in like 1703. The f'n Harley guys come through revving their damn bikes, vibrating, and shaking historic buildings, but no ticket, just admiration. On our side, if I rev my 240 (if I had an exhaust on it) they'd ticket my a$$ quickly.

Can't believe they'd do that to a car. One and only reason why I'd never live in Cali. Heard it's great there in all, but I'll pass. Because my car comes from Japan you're going to de-tune it because you've watched too much Fast and Furious. Grade A Bologna.........(Sorry for going off.):twocents:

They bother people with Skylines here too. I have 2 buddies (Yes TWO) with R34s in the Charleston area, and both have bought alternate vehicles because of frequent stops by Johnny.

You can swap a huge crate motor into your domestic and not get a f'n ticket or crushed, but heaven forbid I put a smaller engine in my car because it's from Jaaaaaaaaapppppppppppppaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn........

dont even get me started lol. some idiots here raise their trucks atleast 3x what the stock height is and they roll around pumping diesel out there exhaust covering everyone in smoke but i drop my car 1 or 2 inches and all of a sudden im paul walker or some shit. its stupid. have you ever heard a gsxr 1000 go to 10k? its deafening! but i guess its just that they are so worried about us doing stuff that they crack down on us more .

I know, I've seen the True Life episode on MTV about street racing. And I agree with the SVUs they have in Cali, and the other precautions. But the use of vehicle profiling is up there with racial. (I'm black by the way so nobody freak out, don't call Al or Jessie, and please no NAACP!) If you are caught street racing with a swapped motor and other profuse amounts of performance enhancing mods, then YES, crush the car. He is a danger to his or herself and to others while engaging in street racing. But just patroling and seeing a FMIC, an aftermarket exhaust, HIDs, or a slammed car, doesn't mean you seek and destroy.

i know its so stupid. once i was driving and i needed to speed up so i went into booost. not even full boost like 1 or 2 pounds well the cop heard it and pulled me over and did the whole hood thing and i just kept telling him its the stock engine with the stock turbo. but oh no. the way he was treating it was as if i had a 10 second skyline or something.
It really is weak sauce. I guess bored is bored.

"Hey, I heard a turbo.....No meth labs to shut down, no drug dealers to lock up? What the hell, why not. Hit the sirens. I got Forza Motorsport on my XBOX, I'll know how to stick it to him."
this is turning into a "you know what grinds my gears" thread....you guys need to go let steam off in there.....lol

You could be right. I'll remember that the next time. Didn't even know it even exist.
hahah ive been looking up the same thing about all of this idk if this is the correct answer but i found this today and its close to alot of other answers i found!!!!

Whether or not its legal depends on the state you live in. States without emissions, it’s perfectly legal. Good or bad, most states have followed California’s lead when mandating their own emissions standards. Currently, it is legal to perform engine swaps in California if certain criteria are met. Most importantly, the new engine you’re swapping in must be from a Nissan vehicle of the same year or newer than the vehicle you’re swapping it into. The new engine must retain all of its original, functioning emissions equipment, and any aftermarket performance equipment that has been installed must have a California E.O. number assigned to it to keep your swap legal.

In order to get your engine swap approved, you need to go to a Referee Station and pay about $30 to have your vehicle inspected. The referee will inspect your installation to see if you used the same or newer year engine. He’ll check operation of all the emissions equipment, and if it passes inspection he’ll slap an ‘Engine Identification sticker on your doorjamb, meaning a legal record of your approved engine swap is always on the vehicle. Contact your local DMV office and ask for the number of a Referee Station near you. The person answering the phone may ask why you need to go to a referee, and your answer should be “engine change.” If you say “engine swap” you’ll confuse the employee on the other end of the line who has the power to cause you hours of endless grief, so remember to only speak in language they’re familiar with. If you’re not in California, check with the DMV.

ummm the site i got it off :)

Everything is allowed where i live. If cops hear boost they dont pull you over because they dont wanna get smoked by what they consider a rice rocket. They are harder on the big lifted trucks bc they know they can catch tthem lol
Eliminator- It's not just as easy as "hey give me a sticker, this motor's newer and from a nissan."
That's someone typing. Show me that a non-OE/USDM motor is allowed on an official site (govt, dmv, etc) and then go for it.

"used the same or newer year engine" typically refers to the same engine code. I.E. my 91 motor blew, the shop put in a 95.

SK- Be glad you live there then. That's not how 99% of the country works. Enjoy it =P
I do. The cops here are just lazy as hell. They dont wanna deal with fast cars but they love hitting ricers for fix it tickets
