I want the quietest exhaust on the planet!

I'm looking for an exhaust system for my n/a KA (I'm poor, no turbo yet). But I don't want something that's loud and obnoxious (like every Civic, CRX, Accord, and Integra around here), but quiets down w/ a turbo. I looked at the JIC exhaust volume control knob thing, but I've never heard anything about it besides in Super Street (which isn't always reliable). Most of you know more than most magazines, so give me some input, if ya would. Thanks

Cool, but does anyone know anything about the JIC exhaust volume control thing?

I would recommend either the DD system from Greddy or the Apexi World sport I or the new World Sport II. The World sports have a DB rating of 80 or less and are made for a daily driven car. Also there not to expensive...Stubby

we don't need to get into what is/is not rice on this forum, no one cares. If it continues this way I'll close this thread down, but I'd liek to see some constructive responses to help this fellow.

raen419,
When I had my 91 I found that the HKS Hiper exhaust I bought was relativly quiet and had a very deep sound to it, not like "beehive" on the Vtec and other honda engines. Like mentioned before no replacements will be quieter then stock, but there are relativly quiet ones. Stick with 2.5" piping for your NA car. 3" turbo piping is too large, and can minimally hinder performance on an N/a(not that anyone can tell real HP diff with just an exhaust on). HKS makes good products that are quiet, the Hiper does have a big tip, but it sounds nice. I don't know if HKS still makes the sport series exhaust, but that will give you good performance and noise with stock looking tips, if they still make it.

greddy is one of the quietest exhausts i've heard ever i have a friend with an sr20 an at idle you can barely hear it and at highway speeds it is quiet enough to talk on the phone not drone like at all

Thanks fodive. Although I don't see any ricer/non-ricer references (no offense), my main question still hasn't been answered:
Has anyone heard anything good/bad about the JIC volume control for the exhaust? I saw it in Super Street when they listed a shit load of parts for 240's (the one with the Silvia S15 from Texas on the cover).

dude we have no idea what you're talking about.

The only thing i can think of is the exhaust throttle thingys, that are basically throttle butterflies you put in your exhaust system. Sure they'll make things quiet if you close them, but then what's the freakin point of buying an aftermarket exhaust!

dude try changing your muffler. Then if it's good enough stick with it. If you want louder you can progress to changing your piping. And seeing as you mentioned you dont have too much money, a muffler is a good starting point. Or maybe keep your stock muffler and take your resonator off. that's EVEN CHEAPER!!!

HHAHA i just read the title of yur post again "I want the quietest exhaust on the planet" haha

alright here's what you do. Go buy 5 catalytic converters, 5 resonators, and 5 mufflers. Line em up after one another all the way down your exhaust system. Not necessarily in that order.

im looking up about the jic right now, but try a fujitsubo viable. muffler with electronically controlled valve to adjust flow through muffler so you can control sound and exhaust preassure. you could also look at Billet Variable Straight Pipes, which also have a flap to control flow.

Hey Raen,
Im not sure what level of upgrades you have done to your car yet or not, but if you wanna quiet exhuast stick with stock muffler, upgrade your suspension, if youve already done that, upgrade some more. it'll make quicker in twisties and straight line (a little), wait til you got the turbo to upgrade your exhaust at once!

my .02

P.S. its funny how everyone on this thread suggests a different answer, lol.

no prob, just trying to help through my struggles, LOL

it worked wonders for me, remember this key fact with noise reduction comes restriction, straight flow desings even though some claim to reduce noise, it will 90% of the time just change your tone, which may seam like noise suppression, the same goes for straight flow resonators, you may get some flowmaster resonators (turbo muffler) wich flow @430 and could be used, since they are not a straight flow desing it might help,
the reducer i used, use the same idea behind a silencer at the end of your pipe like an apex or the ebay cheapo joints, i could not install one at the end since im running a magnaflow dual.

you might want to look into gettin a cut out welded onto your stock piping. just cruise with stock and then if you want to race or something flip a switch and then you got yourself no exaust. real cheap too.
