I cant decide on which engine i want to swap...

These are my choices:

1. S14 blacktop

2. RB25DET

3. VG30DETT

i was thinking of doing a VG in an S13, i say go for the VG, it is really original
yeah, real good reasoning there...it's not really original anyways, its been done a handful of times with both the n/a and tt motor.

If you want to do a VG in your car, there's a few things to know. First, it's not an easy swap. at all. You better have a lot of experience and access to some good fabrication equipment. It's 10x worse if you want to swap in a TT, too. Also, consider the cost of replacement parts for the VG (almost as much as RB parts) and the difficulty of working on it...anything you do, that motor will probably have to come out of the car.

On the bright side, it's a tough, torquey motor with some decent potential. Even in N/a form, it has a better stock output than an s13 or s14 sr, although with n/a mods you're not gonna get huge HP without spending a lot of money.

Not trying to discourage you if that's what you want to do, just know that it's not the easiest thing in the world...

These kinds of posts are worthless without budgets.

9.99 times out of 10 it's tire kickers. Which is cool, if you mention that.

Personally if I was younger and didn't care about laws I'd go RB25DET...it's really overkill for the traction you have in a 240SX, but the BIG plus it's sexy exhaust tone. However, like Shwag said the RB20 and SR20 are about the same money..., my money in that race is on the SR though, bang for buck factor...if you want nice 'fly-by' sounds the RB ;). Outside of that the SR20DET is a no-brainer...so many parts out there to get you exactly where 90% of all street drivers need to be. Still illegal though :(

I am doing a KA-T, I am mid 30's and a professional, last thing I need in life is being sued by the EPA ;), I want to retire soon to play with cars all day not payoff a lawsuit. I chose my 240sx over looking for a 944 turbo...it's a long story, but I have came from a lot of great cars and currently see no value in spending $30-40k for a depreciating item.

What is your technical ability (this is a big one...it's pretty easy to swap things, but without thinking about maintenance and replacement parts a terrible thing to do)? What kind of tools/access to tools do you have? Can you afford a car down/you down for a week+ of work if needed? add a big 'etc' to this list.

I am just doing a basic alarm, stereo, replacing worn items, and quieting down the clicks, rattles, etc in my 98SE and it's been one 4 day weekend + about 6 saturdays and I am still not done :)

I am doing it all 'factory' style for the most part. If I just wanted to run wires from point A to B I'd be done a long while ago.

Almost everyday I think about turning it over to a 'pro', but at the same time I know if I did I'd still have to redo things.

These are all things you really need to ask yourself though.
