i bought my car about a year ago and for that year i abused it. my car had 210k on it when the poor SOHC took its last breath and since then the car has been sitting in my driveway waiting for its new engine. ive spent the winter collecting parts and the knowledge.

This weekend (4.22.05) im going to be swapping the new DOHC motor that i bought into my car. the motor only has 70k on it and is in great conditon. ill get pics of it tomorrow. im hopefully going to get some good pics and do another SOHC to DOHC swap write up.

after the engine is in and running i have some other small things im going to be doing like suspension work and fixing some imperfections.

so far this is what my parts list includes:

ON THE CAR ALEREADY
APEXI 3" Evo series catback
Sylvania Silverstar Headlamps

PARTS IN THE CAR BUT SOON TO BE INSTALLED
Ebay Ghetto Intake - bought this so i didnt have to source the intake piping and couplings. i will be getting a better filter :thumbsup
Magnaflow High Flow Catalyst with OE flanges
MSD Blaster 2 Ignition Coil
New Throwout Bearing
Optima yellowtop Battery
plus i got all the E to DE swap parts which include gauge cluster, engine harness, mafs, throttle cable and ECU

PARTS IN MY ROOM :thumbsup :heyhey

Eibach Sportline Springs
KYB AGX Shocks/Struts
NISMO Engine and Tranny Mounts
Ebay Shift Boot
Ebay Front Strut Brace

PARTS IN THE MAIL
Megan Rear Strut Brace
Falken Azenis Tires 205/50/15

tomorrow we will be pulling out the SOHC so ill get some pics of that and also some pics of my nice clean DOHC and tranny. thanks for checkin this out and ill be sure to update it frequently with some good pics of my installs!

Looking good so far... I want that front lip. Can't wait to see your write up and are you going to turbo the DOHC?
when i first bought this car the lip really didnt matter much to me but after i started looking at other pignoses without the lip i was real glad i have one.

im hoping to turbo it in the future but i want swaybars, wheels and atleast the Z32 front brake upgrade first. there are a few other odds and ends id like to repair too like the driver seat. all in time. im just going to be happy to drive this car again since ive sat and looked at it since early october.

eventually im going to do some aero withnew paint but thats atleast a year away. i want the power first :eek4: :heyhey

TYPICAL 240sx Driver Seat with a bite taken out

i need to get a newer pic of the interior because i removed that ugly ass tweed cloth shit from the door panels and im going to do the glovebox soon.

I just installed my Kyb and the sportline combo. Im lovin it.
i got a question about the install. is there a stock rubber bushing that sits on the base of the strut and then one between the top of the spring and the mount? if there is im wondering if i should reinstall them or leave them off?

Don't upgrade your brakes unless you are building a track car - it's just a waste of money. Your stock brakes will do a fine job of stopping your 2700 pound car at most reasonable speeds. If you intend on adding weight or reaching 200 mph then by all means upgrade. Short of that it's pointless.

so i got the SOHC out today in about 3 hours time. pretty quick if you ask me but its the first engine ive ever pulled out of a 240sx soo..

anyway things went very smooth except for the HUGE FUCKING RUST SPOT I FOUND ON THE FRAME :eek4: :eek4: :tears :crazyrant

ya its all the way thorugh. we are going to weld a piece of metal around it. the rest of the frame looked in good shape with next to no surface rust! :thumbsup

now i have a question for anyway that has put a DOHC in a SOHC car! how in the world did you get the power steering line to work? theres no way possible that any of us can think of. if you can elaborate as to how you did it, i would really appreciate it!

You have to get dohc Ps lines! The same if you doin a sr20det.
the return line can be easily customized to fit a DOHC motor but the pressurized line is slightly harder. ive read there is a way to use the SOHC lines on a DOHC. tomorrow we are going to try our hand at making something custom. ill take pics if we succeed :thumbsup if not ill be buying the lines from the part store. they are onjly 54 for the pressurized and 14 for the return line.

agreed. if you just HAVE to upgrade your brakes, go to the q45 swap. much cheaper and much more reasonable

i have brembo blanks/axxis ultimate pads/ ss lines/yokohama tires and thats really about all i need. i can lock up my brakes rather easily.

if i had a ton of money i would get z32 brakes. nothing hotter than those big ole calipers.

leave them. if im thinking of the same thing, i left mine off and it wasnt good. cant remember exactly what happened, but on the test drive the car sank down and the top of the struts in the real poked up into the car.

oh, and definetly get the rear ebay strut bar to match the front. front didnt do much for me but the rear def helped my fastback. and good choice with the sway bars. they help.

we are going to weld another piece of metal to the other side for more structual support tomorrow!

REMOVED THE A/C Lines, CONDENSER and FAN.
my radiator will be working so much more efficently!

THE INTERIOR BODY HARNESS WIRING
we used the SOHC connector with the DOHC wires in the correct pin holes, fuck sodering or crimping

TOO ANYONE THAT SAYS THE SOHC POWER STEERING LINES CANT WORK!
we used a compression fitting and cut some of the tubing off. the return lines and resivoir will be easily mounted tomorrow. IT WORKS!

HERES WHERE WE ENDED TODAY! FITTING THE MOTOR IN AND CHECKING OUR CONNECTIONS!
tomorrow will will finalize everything.

thank you!

we have about 10 hours worth of work into the car so far and about a 5 or 6 left before we will have it running. i personally believe we are moving so quick because i have been planning this for nearly four months now. i studied the FSM and READ these forums along with zilvia nightly i swear. :eek3dance

again thank you for the compliments. im looking forward to gettin my suspension work done after the engine is in and running! :heyhey :heyhey then il be able to have some fun

Wow, the car looks good.

I have the front lip too. I love it. :embarasse

If you can document/take pics how to make the SOHC power steering lines to work, that would e great!:)
thank you.

how we made that line work is by cutting some of the tubing out of the middle part. we used brass compression fittings to connect the lines back together. i didnt really take alot of pics of the process because i was working on other things while it was being done :12dunno the fittings are 5/16th and it took a light bit of sanding to fit them. we also flared the ends of each pipe.
im sorry i didnt document it better, we are moving at such a fast pace it hard to get pics of anything!

well i guess its time for my rant because im totally pissed off! today is a WASTED FUCKIN DAY that i could have been working!

the clutch and throwout bearing i was sold for my car are WRONG! normally id be ok and deal with it but it just pisses me off that i cant do a DAMN thing without these parts. i ordered this over the phone from my local Advanced Auto Parts because i usually trust them to get my parts and they are 95% of the time right! ahh i dont know what they ordered though the splines on the tranny were too big fr the clutch and the throwout bearing was twice the size of the one i needed. im thinking they are for a FWD KA24 instead of RWD.

ok im done. i guess if this is the only set back in swapping motors then i should be so lucky! :12dunno

Hopefully tomorrow i will have all the parts i need and will finish this swap up and be "tippin' my 240 to work tuesday" :rotflmao
