im looking at tein coilovers, and looking at the SS or FLEX models. Not sure which way to go. Im going to be entering drift events/ autocross events. Any thoughts. Also is it true the flex isnt rebuildable?

there isn't a coilover that is made for drifting, regardless of name.
the majority of coilovers offered for the 240sx market are based on spring rate. anything from 8/6 to 12/10 rates are offered, but the actual quality of a coilover is in it's build.
valving is everything with a coilover. if the spring rates offered aren't matched with the coilover, you'll get a very harsh/crappy ride quality.
a lot of price has to do with the name. simple as that. i've riden on HKS Hipermax, Tein HE, KTS SC, MR, Tein Flex, JIC FLT-A2, and JIC FLT-A1.
the HKS were the most expensive, but they didn't look or feel any better in terms of spring rate and build quality than Tein Flex, KTS SC, or JIC FLT-A2.

do tons of research, read the coilover thread at the top of this section, and take your time. i'm not going to give you advice on which one is best for your needs since there isn't just one, so start searching and post back later.

cheap crap, keep looking.
if you're going to build your suspension, and since it is a very important part of your car, spend the money on the right parts and quit trying to go cheap.

I talked to the D2 guy at SEMA, they had a G35 there and I asked him about the bad rep they had back then. He told me they totally revamped the build process and have since offered a quality product. One of my friends took him for his word and ordered a set for his S14. I liked the ride, they are rebuildable, adjust nicely, so I bought a pair, I have two sets of spring for them, one set is great for the track, but ride like shit, the other set works good on the street and still handles good. The reason I have two sets is because when I ordered them from D2's site they sent me the hardest spring rates they have at first, even though I asked for something with a little give in it. Other than that I can't complain about them. I've had buddy clubs on this car and these ride better. My eclipse I had teins on and these ride just as good. But then again eclipses are notorious for riding like shit reguardless of the quality of suspension. But in the same breath I'll have to say I know other people that bought D2's back at the begining of last year and they sucked, they blew out and the craftsmanship was shitty. The guy at SEMA told us they have moved all the research and development to Austraila and do the assembly there as well. So its all in what you want and who you trust. Tein is just whos popular out there at the moment, they are quality parts, but you're also paying for a name at the same time.
