i have a 89 ka24e...stock...nothin done to it yet

i was thinkin about goin the turbo route and makin my own custom turbo setup, but after hard thought i decided not to hasle with it.
what is the most hp that ne of you guys have seen out of a n/a ka24e...?

and besides the obvious: cai, headers, exhaust, chip, pulleys...what else is there that i can do after the internals?: cams, rods, pistons... from my knowledge that is maxin it out pretty much right there..or is it a matter of knowin how to build it and with what parts to buy. . .?
if ne one has any info then it would be greatly appreciated..

thanks

uumm, not much can be done, they are still truck engines, but if I was you, I would get. Standalone ECU system, Indavitual Throttle bodies directly , maybe with some mesh covers on them. Full port and polish, and all the headwork gismos like extreme cams, ect. and maybe high compression pistons. That should set you up to maximum HP on these engines. Along with some exaust.

BAAAAAKA!

The most horsepower a company told me that they could produce from an NA KA is 275 at the flywheel. This is an extremely expensive feat to accomplish though (over $10,000) and if money's the issue, going turbo would be much cheaper. NA tuning, horsepower for horsepower is much more expensive than turbo tuning.

a truck engine!!!
u got to be crazy, they used the engine in a truck (also used it in a stanza, altima, 240sx, pintara) that does not make it a truck engine. u can go with the high revving sr or ca but the displacement will help u yield hp with less work. I think u would need a radical cam, underdrive pulleys, high comp. pistons, oversized valves and valve job, port and polish, cold air intake, 2.5in. exhaust, header, high flow cat and an s-afc, etc... and u should be able to get in the 275 flywheel hp range.

The highest HP NA KA I have seen was by a race shop and the were making 285 to the crank but cost $16000. Now I would just turbo the KA it will cost much less and will yeild much more HP. Or if you want something else to think about try supercharging it. You can turbo a KA for around $1500-$3000 depending on what you get and how much you have done. The KA is a good engine but it isn't the best. Also the KA is just a truck engine it was never meant for any of those cars you mentioned 3rd gear it was a matter of cost for nissan, and what they felt the american public wanted aka more torque...Stubby

the highest powered ka i've seen is 150hp @ the wheels which is about 180-200 @ the fly. that power figure was made at horspower heroes at summernats in australia.

it had dual throttle bodies, a cam, port & polish, programmable ecu, exhaust and raised compression.

not too bad for a 12 year old n/a engine.

i'll let you all know what mine makes once the cam goes in.

you non ka sohc beliver
truck engine haa haa and................
my car will be out soon im sure i wont be upset going the ka sohc route,sr is becoming like a honda lol to me,thats the easy way of boosting with no torque, whats hp with no torque???? what i mean by the sr becoming liek a honda is everyone has it on they re 240 if its boosted, dont get me worng the sr is great but the ka is great also

I agree SR is like a honda now. Im sticking with the KA but going DOHC. :( sorry i like having two over one. And definatly turbo is the way to go if you want to get some hp and toorque.

one big reason i stayed sohc is becasue the motor olnly had 40k on it ,i mean dual or single big deal a lil more hp than the other, plus sohc has lower compression, lower end torque :)

what about the ka24de? would it make more power thank the ka24e?

as for the power, what would the car rev at... 11rpms? maybe 12?
Sell the 89, buy a 91+ (KA24DE), Turbo it.

estimate $3500-$4000 and estimate 240 HP.

Best for the money I'd say. Of course, more money = More power. So it always comes down to, "How much can you spend??"

I've never understood the Carb Swap. Fuel Injection has its obvious advantages, and to me seems like alot of work for nothing.

i'd much rather put my money into an engine swap or turbo system than adding carbs.

If i wanted a carbed car, theres always mustangs and camaros out there.

My KA24E SOHC motor is pulling out about 240 hp with a JDM form of total tuning aproach. It's not as difficult as others make it seem. I've had my car almost 7 years. You do everything a little at a time with long term and reliability in mind. With the engine rebuilt @175,000 mi., a 5spd conversion, etc., I've spent about $6k (mods. and advanced maint. only) If anybody's seen the latest Video Option 2 series to come out, they did an equal HP, turbo vs. NA. The conclusions were that they are about equal. the turbo cars were faster on the uphill roads because of the higher torque available. However, they had more problems than the NA cars because they were overheating constantly. The NA cars are more dependable in that you don't have to keep an eye on everything. You just get in and drive. :crazyrant
JDM is the true performance path.

ENJOY THE RIDE...

i am very happy with the outcome of the ka25e
it cost me so very little to get so very much
right now im running stock ecu, manifold, injectors, exhaust manifold.
10.5:1 c/r pistons 91.1mm bore(if you know me, you know i always bring that up :rotflmao ) the reason most people dont build the ka24e n/a is the price to get there. mazda b2600 91.1mm bore 36.1mm comp. ht pistons are used in my current engine. when i get my ca18det injectors and an ecu tune i will have it up on the dyno. if anyone is interested in building a ka24e high compression short block let me know i have tons of info and experience

i check the nico ka24e board more than this one. lots of good info concerning ka24 n/a. im deviousKA btw. Havent had enough time to put together my info for webpage. For anyone in the northwest, Motorworks in Orofino, ID. we sell high compression motors, shortblocks, piston kits, etc... for ka24e, z24i, 22r.

who cares what people think about 12 valves being truck engines .. when i have spanked a few sr20dets .. with my ride. on freeway its a different story.. i pull on them .. and then they finally pass me up ! oh well .. boost is known for freeway use anyway!

we have a ka24e 12 valve with roughly 240 hp .. with a 226 at .050 duration and .540 lift. Powerband is great up to 7500rpm . And with a bigger cam .. witch is easy to obtain can bring it well up to 8500rpm ! this is a carburated engine btw. pics in my signature!
