see if any tranmission shop can rebuilt it for you...if not you have to go find another used tranny.....i hear you can use another tranny(forgot which one) if you swapped out the bell housing.

 

bad syncro...i think the 2nd and 5th gear syncro going bad is a common problem with 240's.

 

you CAN go into 5th gear if the syncro is bad.

Do this:

In 4th, shift into nutral, let the clutch down.
Rev the motor up. Then clutch in, move to 5th.

Should work if its just a syncro.

While upshifting, your need to slow your gearbox down so you do this:
4th, shift to neutral, let out clutch, let gears mesh for about 3sec, clutch in, shift to 5th.
While downshifting, you need to speed your gearbox up so you do this:
4th, shift to neutral, let out clutch, rev the motor (to the RPM that you WILL be in when your in the gear your shifting to ie, 4th at 3000= 3rd at 4000), push in clutch and shift to 3rd before the RPM's drop.

Double clutching is the way to go...you NEVER need syncros if you know how to do it right.....
