Can anyone suggest a good alarm with all the bells and whistles? I've been nervous and paranoid lately and my current alarm sucks. It needs to have the paging system where it tells you what's going on with your car and I need the option for motion sensors and glass sensors. If anyone has an alarm like this or can point me in the right direction of a website that does reviews or sells alarms, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Viper 791xv (alarm + remote starter)

I've installed dozen upon dozen of these systems and have never had a problem. I also have it installed on my own car.

or the 690xv (stand alone alarm) if you don't want the remote starter part.

He's right, technically your not supposed to, but since when does majority of the things we do to our car "legal"?

What i did with my car was bypass the clutch switch, meaning i can now start my car w/out the clutch. That of course is very dangerous if the car is left in gear hence why it is illegal to do.

BUT there are a few handful of systems out there that adapt remote starters to manual transmissions. www.ultrastarters.com , and i think http://www.compustar.org/intro.html carry systems compatible with manuals. Tho i do carry both those products there is a higher problem rate with those units when compared to the DEI (aka VIPER, HORNET, etc) products.

1-way system is basically your regular alarm system, the 2-way is basically a pager system hence the name "2-way" since the vehicle communicates with the remote to let you know of any disturbances etc...

Ive been pretty paranoid too since my previous car was stolen (an integra)...I have a pager alarm on my 240 now, plus the club, and autolock...lol im not taking any chances. Well....I have a 2 way security pager alarm, w/ a 1 mile range supposedly, but if theres some trees in ur way, itll drop down to like...1/2 mile...Paid 300 w/ instalation for it...comes w/ auto start (mine's a manual as well), trunk release, and the alarm, it has some other options that i don't use like turbo timer, automatic autostart at a certain time, plus some other things that i can't remember...

The shop i got it done at is in brooklyn. a friend of mine refered me to them. Ive had it in my car since i got it last september...this was the first mod i did to my car...and it keeps my mind at ease knowing i can monitor my car from a distance. So far no problems...I like the fact that i can communicate w/ my car even at night, cuz i usually park 200 ft or so away from my apt. Also the sensativity can be adjusted...i freaked out one night at about 1a.m. cuz my pager alarm went off saying the warning chirps went off...i ran to my car and some tree bark fell on the hood...i adjusted the sensativity to very fine...so if someone like a police officer decides to give me a ticket, and slams the wiper on the windshield like they usually do, the warning chirps go off. lol

If anyone in the NY area wants to know where i got this alarm...PM me...no i dont work for them, or anything...just passing along great deals w/ great service.

if you try to start a car in gear, it will keep trying and keep the car moving which has killed a few people. thats why its illegal. Dont trust yourself to leave it in gear. what i do is connect magent reed switches to each gear. so when the gear is engaged the reed switch is "on" and wire it so if the reed switch completes the circuit, the remote start wont turn on. dont try to do this by yourself unless you have thorough 12V knowledge and devise some way to rig the reed switches to your shifter

Yeah, instead of the signal that tells the alarm that the car is in park, connect it to +12V DC. Or better yet, if you want to actually be safe, maybe you can connect it to the MT's neutral switch. I'm not sure if it's live when the car is off though.

hey james sorry to ressurect your 1+ month old thread but my car just got broken into today. I see you have an S13 so I was wondering what kind of setup you got. I'm looking for paging too. Also I have no power locks or windows, does that make it a bitch? Thanks...
