ok while i was finishing up my head gasket job, my dumbass dropped one of the timing chain tensioner bolt things into the block and i think its in the oil pan now.

question is, how do i remove my oil pan without removing the cross member or lifting the engine? any tricks?

or if i have to, whats the best way to go about it.

i've removed all the bolts and pulled the oil pan off but the crank thing inside the oil pan is blocking the removal.

Well I did mine a couple of times the easiest way I did it was to unbolt the engine mounts and lift the engine slightly this makes the work easier and isn't as invovled as unbolting the crossmember. I know you didn't really want to but it is so much easier that way...Stubby

if you have another jack and a piece of small 2x4 wood you are set. I usually placed the jack under the trannie tunnel and lift the engine from there. Be careful that you don't bind or break anything off when lifting the motor. Dont' worry it isn't as bad as it sounds your biggest problem will be the motor mounts. If you don't have another jack then it will get difficult...Stubby

No it won't break the trannie. I lift it right where the flywheel is or where the bellhousing bolts to engine that is where you will want to lift it that is a strong point. I may be able to get a pic for you but I can't right now...Stubby

You don't have to worry to much just make sure you aren't lifting on any wires or anything that looks like it will break easily The bellhousing is very strong and for the amount of work you will performing it won't harm the trannie...Stubby
