The fate of a new small Nissan sports car and the next-generation Cube are still undecided.
Nissan is having a tough time making a business case for the IDx and the Cube according to Pierre Loing, vice-president of product planning for Nissan Americas.
Based on the recently revealed pair of concept cars, the IDx would be a small rear-wheel drive sports car that would compete with the sub-$30,000 Scion FR-S. “It’s not easy to do, (and) if you do something like this and you manage to do a vehicle at (a low) price, what else would you do on this platform? Because frankly to do a platform for 50,000 or 60,000 (units) a year – it’s not worth it,” Loing told Ward’s Auto.
