I've been going through sr20det black top motors pretty bad lately. ( 3 motors in a year ) I do not drive like a bat out of hell but i do drive the car to work everyday 75 miles both ways. ( freeway driving) Besides doing a internal rebuild. is there anyway to make a sr20det more reliable? Heres my parts that i have.

tuned ecu (empathy)
550 injectors
nismo fuel pressure regulator
down pipe
exhaust
megan manifold
gt28r turbo
bc cames
valve springs & retianers
rocker arm stoppers
greddy fmic
greddy bov
exedy stage 2 clutch
flex light fans
koyo rad
samco hoses
walboro 255 fuel pump
oil catch can

the cars only runs on stock boost all day everyday. like i said befor i only drive it to work then home and maybe a local car meet. But i seem to be going throught these engines pretty quickly. Is there anything else i should get or do on a slight budget to better the longevity of a black top sr. The one thing that i just bought is a oil temp and water temp gauge. the last engine i had seized on me which i dont understand. If there is anything that i should replace right of way when i buy the next motor? :gaah:

Thanks

I also do monthly oil changes because im paranoid of something going wrong. I use mobile 1 everytime.
Different tune?
well the tune is for all of my mods. the one thing i do not have is a AFC.
Get a piggy back or fulls tand alone and get a real tune
would a cometic head gasket and arp head studs make any difference or a complete gasket kit?
hm thats weird to go through 3 engines when your on stock boost and not driving it hard.. hopefully Rlong or *ka24e* show up in here they will have some good suggestions.

Your not starving it of oil for sure?
Maybe try a new importer?
Rebuilt one engine with new oem parts instead of buying replacement motors?
Ya im not starving any of the motors of oil. and as far as the importer ive used two different ones. I was wondering if there are some important parts of the engine that have to be rebuilt or should be replaced when doing this swap like the water pump or thermostat or head gasket.

^^^^this, rebuild before swapping in motor. Describe what you mean by "going through." What's exactly going wrong with these motors? A SR is just as reliable as any other motor out there, it seems that there is more to the story than you are telling us. I have almost 140k km's on my motor and have had no problems with it. I don't push stock boost and my car is not stock, yet I don't have problems with it.

Also, who is rebuilding your motors? Who is tuning your car? Who is installing these motors? Do they have experience and are they reliable?

I am getting really tired of people blaming the problems on the SR. When, in fact, it is a problem with the person and the install/tune.
I think its that tune
Three motors in one year? This thread goes perfect with my sig quote, lol. Try a different engine (other than an SR) and see if the problem follows.
^^^Rlong just said not to blame it on the sr lol

It could very well be the SR, three bad ones in a row. ;)
^Highly dout that. Im telling you. ITS THE TUNE! If he is driving like a regular person its a tune no?
Whatever it is, there's a whole lot that the OP left out of his story. SRs, or any motor that is designed for a turbo, don't just end their own life when being fed stock boost. I want to know more, hopefully the OP comes back.

That's what happens when you buy an engine (performance engines, that everyone beats on) that you have no previous info on. I guarantee you everyone that's had an SR has beat on it in the past. He may very well of gotten three bad engines, it's pretty much a gamble anyways.
Honestly, I would get an SR and do a complete rebuild (that will put you into the 5k+ area real quick) or research and invest in a different engine.
Yeah, he want to makethe sr look bad. He is doing something wrong

^^^^If everyone would just realize this, the 240 world would be a better place. I have also said this a few times throughout this forum. You have no idea the history of the motor. Every motor should atleast be tested before it is installed.
