hey guys I've recently come across as KA with 170K miles. It runs ok now, but I want a strong reliable DD. I want to tear the whole thing down and rebuild it from the ground up. ONLY to stock specs, OEM replacement, etc. I just want a reliable DD that'll last me a long time and that can take a beating once and a while. I'm wondering what kind of price range I'm looking at for this rebuild and what kind of things i SHOULD replace and stuff I really don't need to replace. I tried searching the forum, but I keep coming short because I just want to pretty much "refurbish" the motor. Thanks for the inputs!

i talked about to about 3-4 shps here in socal about rebuilding my motor. they are asking roughly 3-5k. thats not bad but if you have the space, time, tools, money, you can do it yourself at a fraction of the cost! and it'll also be a big learning experience for ya. parts alone is 2-3k. theres acctually a movie on here somewhere, where a guy rebuilds the ka24e. tearing the motor apart to bare bones. try a search

yea...I'm definately aiming for a $500 budget on new parts. I'm not really worried about the diffculty of the project, if I screw up I know people who can point me in the right direction. I'll try to look for a "rebuild Kit" or something to that sort. Would the KA24E rebuild video help me out? I not really THAT familiar with KAs to know how similar it is with the DE

hrm, maybe its because i wanted a lot more than just oem parts lol. nissan motorsports connecting rods and pistons is what im choosing. milling head the head to achieve another .4:1 compression ratio on top of the 9.1:1 compression ratio that the pistons will give. maybe thats why the shops i've talked to were asking more.

Yeah you should be able to get all the parts for $500-ish depending on where you get them.

For the engine you are basically looking at pistons/rings, main/rod bearings and any machine work you want/need to have done. Of course, this depends on the condition of the engine/internals.

The head you can take to a machine shop drop if off, tell them what you want and they will dissasemble, clean, replace any parts and put it all back together and when you get it back it should be read to bolt on. If you want p&p, it is normally not very cheap. It is very time consuming.

It's not very hard to do, go get some books or videos and ask your friends that know about engines for advice and to help you out. Just make sure you *know* before you do something. You don't want to dump a bunch of money into an engine and not do it right

Good Luck

dude fawk da water pump it usually last pretty long. don't sweat over it. just get the main shiet. all your timing stuff and rings and all dat crap. u should at least get a aftermarket clutch tho. i hecka regret not getting one.

do you speak english?

why would you want to rebuilt it to oem specs? I mean... why not get after market parts that would make the engine more reliable than oem?

because stock specs and parts last 300k+ miles when well maintained. the larger parts arent what fails in most applications, its parts like bearings and whatnot.

a rebuild can cost more then just a rebuild kit.

depending on the condition of the valve seats and the block u could end up spending alot of money on just machine work alone.

but if the engine is in overall good condition u will need:

1. cylinders honed
2. shave the head ( so the gasket will seal properly)
3. a complete rebuild kit. ( be carefull some of the bearings that come with the rebuild kits suck)
(^ be sure the rebuild kit comes with a oil pump and timing kit. and u will probably need pistons and rings to depending on the condition)

and this should make an engine that will be reliable and u wont have to worry about it blowing up at a drift or autox event.
