there's a good penetrating oil called "pb blaster" this stuff is 20 times better than wd 40. i couldn't have lived without it when working on my truck. you can get it any any good parts store.

 

Everybody I know recommends PB Blaster... Hell, when I installed my catback on my Civic I used that and a torque wrench.

you used a torque wrench for a cat back? kinda overkill man.
oh, and i use WD40 and eigther a ratchet with a large pipe on the handle to extend your leverage or you can connect 2 box end wrenches to make one really lone one, its kinda hard to explain.

 

he probably means that he used the torque wrench as a breaker bar for the bolts.
it would seem kinda silly to torque down exhaust bolts.

 

Why is it overkill? Why is it silly?

I'm not too big on tools and I just figured out that a torque wrench is possibly the little hand held wrench. I guess I should have said torque gun, cause it was one of those powered deals connected to the air pressure hose. And what's wrong with securing the bolts with a little torque? I didn't want to tighten them by feel cause they might have just rattled off and the exhaust would have fallen apart. My exhaust is really loud and there are many things in my car that rattle now that didn't before I put on the catback, I'm sure it would have shaken the joints loose unless they were tight. But I didn't use the gun so much for that as I did to get the rusted bolts off the old exhaust, cause even with PB Blaster I still needed lots of power to get those loose...

torque wrench, dont use it to break tools, use a breaker bar

you're SUPPOSED to properly torque down the bolts w/ a torque wrench to the proper torque spec.

you folks should take a basic auto class, im no expert but this is very very basic stuff.

 

Be easy Dousan... :supercool . Some people call breaker bars torque wrenchs. Just like some of us all a crecent wrench adjustible. I mean you do put more torque to the bolt with a breaker bar, so in a way people can call it a torque wrench, lol.

I know he's not hounding me about any breaker bar...I never even said anything about that. And yes, that's it...Impact Gun, I just forgot what it was called. And you see, I knew I was supposed to torque the bolts down...

dude i did my own head gasket and used a torque wrench to torque the bolts down properly.
i know what it is and how to use one so dont make it seem like everyone else is a complete fool.
ive never seen a proper torque spec for exhaust bolts (not header studs but bolts) super tight has always worked for my group and i and my friend w/ a self installed greddy exhaust on his civic has not had any problems with his install.

dude, spec is 32 to 41 ft-lbs. it says it plain as day in the FSM.

Breaker bar is all I needed, but I had to use deep socket attatchments cuz that bolt sticks too far through the nut.
