I was driving to work this morning and noticed that there was somke comming out from my shift boot! Have any of you guys experienced this? Im thinking its probably caused by some oil or fluid on the transmission that gets burned off when my tranny gets warm. What do you guys think? I just want to know if its anything to worry about. Thanks in advance :)

The reason that you're only noticing it when the windows are down is because when the windows are down it acts like a vacuum and physically pulls it in the car. Did you recently replace or top off the gear oil? If so you may have over filled it or the seal on the tranny may be going out, causing it to spit gear oil on the exhaust and burn it from there. How often does it happen? Do you notice it more often on the higher RPM range vs just normal cruising?

i had that problem a while back...it was the blow-by coming off the T in the valve cover. the line that connects back to the intake was not connected and just dangling down, and was dripping on my intake hose and turbo manifold causing the oil to burn and the smoke was coming up from the shift boot. but you could definately tell it smelled like oil.
