If your goals is 350 HP, go with Sr, u can get there faster and cheaper with SR. the CA will only make 280 hp with T28, and not safe for the internal after that. I own CA18det and I love my engine. but my goals is for only 250 Rwhp. so....do your research...and see what do u want..if u really need that 350 hp..but hard to get parts go with SR, and if u thing 280 is ok for everyday driving and u can just go to Advance auto part or Nissan dealer to get parts..then Ca is for you..just my.02 C

How high was boost on the T28 to make 280hp? I have been researching both motors at different forums and found that the CA18DET can hold most boost than an SR20, because it is an iron block instead of Aluminum. Also CA18DET has much better head design compared to the SR20. Then again the SR20DET has .2 Liters more displacement

I am not dissing on the SR20DET its just some info I found

my goal for the 350 hp is way away.. i'd probably be running around 220 or so for a long while. i will make sure all internals are upgraded or replaced before moving on from there, i know that. right now funds are low so ca is for me...i'd definataly go sr if i had the money, but thats the problem

Sr's have notoriously crappy paper head gaskets. That would be the first thing to swap regardless of mods. Sr's have aluminum blocks, but they're overbuilt, like the KA. The sr's weakness is not the block, its the head gasket and the head's flow. I always believed that if you start out with more power, it will be easier for the motor to withstand power upgrades. I would choose the sr simply because it's displacement is greater (not that much, but it's there) than the ca. It takes well to mods and for where you want to be, its the way to go. The ca is a great powerplant! (there, now its unbiased lol)

hehe..unless i hit the lottery or something im gettin a CA i plan on gettin the swap late summer/early fall this year. which at that time i will only have enough money for a CA. plus the whole install for the CA plus purchasing of parts and all is about the same of installing a stock sr20 motor with no upgrades.

u could just upgrade to a t28 ball bearing turbo, or a t28/t3 hybrid, going with a t3/t04 you will have to get a new turbo manifold, which are like 400-600 for a decent one
eh not really i just looked on ebay for one and they are like $175-400 ish

good luck with those, you pay what you get for man, just remember that, those are the ssautochrome, some guys run them and dont have probs, but alot of them crack, if you do buy one i def recogmend getting it braced and getting the welds redone, or just spending a little more and getting a better one, and the yes the stock head gasket should be replaced in either motor, think about how old they are, and coming from boosted cars....the benefit to the ca is you can pick up a hg at autozone, get some arp head studs and itll be good up to liek 280hp

ca will make around 280 hp on T28 @ around 15-18 psi according to support mods.
and anything over 300hp ( to the crank) on either CA or SR a new headgasket is REQUIRED!! if u want the engine to survive. talk to the guys on the CA forums...they can tell u a lot more. C
