sr vs. ka

this has probably been posted before but i just have to ask. it has always been said on this forum that the sr20 motor is lighter than the ka24. the question that i have is how much lighter is it. is it light enough that it makes a huge difference or is ir just a few pounds. because if it is only like 20 pounds different how much beter is it?

KA is better. There's no replacement for displacement. At a given boost level the KA will kill an SR all day long. The main reaosn people buy SR's is because they generally have lower mileage than the KA currently installed in their vehicle.

KA>SR. Just my opinion. I'd personally prefer an N/A KA24E with a small shot of nitrous to make up the horsepower difference.

i am not considering the sr i am staying with my ka but i was just wondering the weight difference. if its not a big difference then who cares about the weight. everyone says the sr is so much better because it is lighter. well how much lighter is it does anyone know?

lol.....KAE=no:smacked49,IMO
KADE=decent but alot of work to boost effecently
SR=good stock turbo engine to much work to aquire and all the fab needed to make it work
CA=ok,cheap turbo swap but never heard alot of positive feedback

END RESULT= N/A KADE, with mild cams, header, exhaust intake...blah blah blah......it will have even torque and power and you already have it.....weight in front end is good for drifting makes for better front end weight transfer all of this is IMO

umm, no. you can easily boost a stock KA. and it's not really a lot of work.

too much work to acquire an SR? are you joking? you can buy one online with a credit card and have it shipped to your door. and there's really not a lot of fab work.

CA=ok,cheap turbo swap but never heard alot of positive feedback
yeah, that's cause no one wants a civic sized motor.

yeah, but it'll be weak. most power ever made with a KA-DE is 217whp. a stock s13sr with upped boost and FMIC and exhaust will put down about 230whp.

+1. KA24E's are the shit.

Learn how to drive and you can kill anything with boost. I've pulled built EVO's and brand new STI's on the backroads all day long with a bone stock KA24E.

I've killed brand new civic SI's right off the lot in drag races with my bone stock high mileage KA24E. IIRC the civic SI has over 190 horsepower and the KAE has ~145.

Horsepower is for people that can't drive and are trying to compensate for lack of cornering skill (and possibly something else). I can drift just fine with my stock engine, I can pull anything I want through the corners, and I can smoke the tires all day long. Who needs anything more?

Mondojackal:
What is the best horsepower made from a N/A SR20DE?? I'll bet my left nut it wouldn't hold a candle to a KA24(D)E. There's no point in comparing N/A vs. turbo. It's like comparing apples to oranges or saying that the Bronco in my avatar wheels better than my S13. Two different things my friend. They are all nice, but not the same. Boosted engines have an unfair advantage.

Give a KA the same boost pressure and intercooler and then compare the two engines. That would be a much closer comparison, and the KA would spank the SR.

its not so much as sr or ka its the jdm or usdm factor. alot of the people now are doing it for the fact that its a jdm motor and wanting easy boost. i like both motors, they have there differences and downfalls like any other thing on the road but its all how you want your car set up. i like the fact that i can rev up to 7500 with boost all day and not worrying about blowing a hg. i also love working on it, but its just my liking. stick to what you feel confortable with. youll feel the car more and it will be easyer to drive in the long run. as i said earler its the drivers will to do what he wants to the car. dont let other people tell you what is the right motor for you.

i now understand why i got flamed when i joined.... please forgive me all

#21 ·
you so didnt get flammed :smacked49

its just a touchy subject, do some research and you will find tons of people ideas but if you search a little deeper you will get some good facts....

people take what engine they have personal... like its show your dick competion....

i am a KA-t 'r at heart but all swaps have pro's and con's

lets stop the nonsense..... lets measure turbo's size or dyno #s :happyfing

i didn't write this thread, and i got flamed a bit when i first joined mostly about the coupe VS hatch thread

this thread sucks,

ka for the win. if u dont see the possibilities in a ka motor then you are blind. as it has been said, parts everywhere, more displacement.

but there are other good swaps too. sr have been tried and true and its all up to you, whagtever you are wanting

I hate to keep this thread going, but if this was posted about 3-4 years ago everyone (with the exception of a few) would have went with the SR20 hands down.
Now it seems the majority of people choose the KA over the SR. Damn times change, lol.
