So I've recently purchased a 97 sr20de 200sx with a hole in the block, and am trying to replace the engine. Was wondering if the ka24 and sr20de have the same transmission or if the ka24 swap would require transmission plates or a new trans altogether. Sorry if the question is dumb, I am relatively new to 200sx's and their technical nuance.

Hi there.
Can you post pictures of your vehicle? Are we talking about the rear wheel drive S chassis or the fwd B chassis?
If it looks like any of these two cars then this answer applies.

You can absolutely swap in a ka24.
You would need to swap your bellhousing from your sr20 transmission and change the wiring over.
If you can source a ka24de from the same generation as your car you should be able to swap it in.

But it honestly may be cheaper just to source another sr20de and replace it.
Sr20de's are still really cheap to find. It's the sr20det's that have shot up in value too much.
