Ok so i know this has more or less be discussed manys of times but it never seems to expand out as far as i would like to know.

I understand the ka as it is has a good stroke and everything and that stroking it to say 102mm may rais the torque and hp some but lower your redline. But thats where everyone stops. What if you where to go beyond that though and mod things like the head and cams and valvetrain along with proper intake, exhaust, ecu tuning, and fuel to bring that redline back up? And maybe i havnt done enough research but what about adding on a turbo? I know everyone is worried about cost and looking for power at a cheap price but for someone not worried about cost could you potentially get more torque and hp with a stroked turboed ka with a decent redline?

Well I've been thinking this same thing. My next engine build is going to be a track only motor. But I found a kit where I can bore it 60 over at up to 13:1 compression and be stroked with a new crank. I'm thinking about doing it to the max and boosting on top of that. Your limits are having the right tune, right fuel, and enough of that fuel.

Ive just been playin around with different ideas and possibilities. Im not worried about money cuz i know everything in the end will be worth it. I want to keep the car for the street but be different then everyone else. Something that can be takin out to a show and have everyone admire but still not have to worry that the guy next to me at a light might be faster.

My roommate is building a 90 talon. DOHC stroked and boosted.... He's trying to keep it under 500 at 18-20psi. I'll let yall know how it works when he's done.

Engine is built and in car (never started)... But turbo is coming along slowly.

The main thing that brought down the red line is the increased stroke. But it is Full counter weighted meaning it should still be able to hit the stock red line despite the increase in stroke due to being more harmonically balanced in the RPMs. Beyond that is beyond me.

The head is the best part about the KA. It'll rev just as high as any SR. Its the bottom end that's the issue. That 96mm stroke restrict it from reaching the rpms SR's can.

Rods I believe are good till ~500 IIRC

The weak link in stock form are the cast pistons.
Performance wise is the trq focused intake manifold and the half counter weighted crank.

Other than that its a good motor.
Good flowing head from the factory.
Cam on valve design means no lifters and rockers to break.
Iron block is strong.

I know the ka internals can handle quite a bit of powet like you said, aside from the pistons. However i feel like if im shooting for anything in that range id wanna upgrade everything i can just to reassure myself that nothings gonna break apart under all that load.

Bottom line though, Theoretically though having a stroked kit, fully counterweighted crank, lighter camshafts, etc.. And turboed. You should be able to produce some fantastic numbers with a decent redline correct??

Also something i just thought about is will the stock timing chain handle all that or are there upgrades and modiffications for that as well?

Lighter Camshafts?
Trust me. Then Crank will take more then you'll ever throw at it.
No need to waste money on a Stroked FCW Crank.

Stock Trans normally go out when it see's trq. in the high 400 range and being put through slick drag launches.

Milo whats your power goal? Sounds like your over thinking honestly. No offense.

My power goal is honostly as high as i can get it. Im not afraid to go above and beyond and throw money into it. Im thinkin at least i want 500+ i know my goals are far and like you say i may be iver thinking things but i really want something thats different, thats above and beyond, that can take down most anything, and over all just wow people.

I agree. I figure generally ill probably end up with around 700 if i just start planing and piecing together parts.

Its gonna be a good while of workin my ass off and savin though lol but hey i belive if your gonna do something do it all out and the best you can and in the end it will be worth every bit of hard work and money

Are you dead set on the ka?
It is possible to make any motor fast but you can make that power much easier on other motors.

Also, I went to import dps (I live 30 mins from them) and they ditched the ka for an sr in their drag car FYI. I asked why and they said it was so much easier to work on and a more reliable setup.

You can probably get a 2 jz swapped in for less, (assuming you do the work) and have it tuned without needing to touch internals. I'm just saying this because I've seen far too many people poop out of projects like this and get stuck with ka parts that no one wants to buy

Im pretty set on the KA. I know there are other motors and everything that others prefer but id be doing just the same to those ones. I figured id try and keep as much of the car as original as possible with keeping the ka even if modded if that makes any sense. Like you said you can make any engine fast and reliable. I say why not start with one you already have. And if people have started to do something like this and are just selling the parts then b lucky for me lol
