Sohc ka-t<$1000

Possible?

Myself and sprsw20 are thinking of the easiest way to get his girlfriend's car boosting for under a grand. She said she doens't like revving the engine and wants shitloads of torque.

We think we'll need the following for 6-10psi on a t25:

new OEM clutch (maybe upgraded disc?)
safc2
walboro fuel pump (the stock one is old, no need
FPR (he wants a rising rate to keep the correction factors down on the s-afc II ta high rpm, i think a static rate will be fine since this is on the cheap)
Manifold
t25
lines and oil return bung
downpipe and exhaust
Reusing sidemount Ic we have lying around

Could we get away with:

Stock Injectors?
Stock MAF?

Thoughts......

Yeah we didn't really have a high HP goal. We just wanted to give it a little more grunt.

We figured we would turn the fuel pressure up past stock (33psi right?) on the stock injectors, and then use the safc for some fine tuning and to lean the car out at idle.

We're not sure how we want to do it, we're trying to be cheap w/o being too ghetto.

The way we figure, we'll up the pressure enough so that its not flooding at idle, but isn't running too terribly lean under boost. With that we figure we'll be seeing correction factors in the posotive at higher rpms (which is a better place to have your s-afc for ign. timing reasons), but will be running a pretty significant negative correction factor at lower rpm/idle...

Then again we might just go with a rising rate fpr, tough to say.

Stock with the vacuum line on the FPR is 36-37psi. With the Vacuum line off (simulating atmospheric pressure (0 psi)) it should read about 42-43psi.

You have to have the car running to get these readings. Someones going to try that without reading this statement ;)

i broke that barrier a while ago...my de was turbo...and running low boost...wasnt perfect but it ran...then i bought some 370cc's, safc2, wideband, and walbro on ebay and it runs just fine now

370's $72
used walbro $40
used safc2 $150
used wideband $200
used turbo $100
flanges, all lines, and coupling $50
smic and custom piping 1/2 steel 1/2 rubber $90
used log manifold w/ downpipe $200

i did some of the work...mostly guided by my buddy

We weren't trying to break any barriers fastfrontier, we're just broke mofo's, lol.

As for the power, we didn't really have any strict goals, we're just gonna boost 10psi (assuming we use the t25, less if we use a t3), tune it, and whatever that gets us it gets us. We aren't finding any ka-t manifolds with a t25 flange. the best looking manifold we've seen so far is the realnissan mani, and that only comes in a t3, so we might have to switch to using a turbo off a friends old z31 (we were gonna use the stock t25 off a friend's dsm).

Our goal here is really for crazy spool right off idle and great torque, so we'd prefer to use the t25. If anyone knows where we can find a ka-t manifold with a t25 flange let me know, or even more mani's with a t3 flange for that matter.

Keep in mind this is a girl's car, we're not trying to build a sr killer or anything. :)

lol he makes them himself. He's the owner of Gladman Performance ;). Look em up.
Shiiiiiit, he should hook a brotha up, I got 20 bucks . . . thanks for the link dopeass...that might be the way to go, for 150....that certainly meets our criteria for being cheap. :thumbsup :thumbsup

You wont meet the $1000 mark if you bought all your parts from me, but if you wanted to do your own kit, i could sell you a CNC'd KAE head flange for $50.

If you want a super cheap manifold, i can hog one out in an hour and ship it to you unpainted and not debured, basic log that you'd have to port and paint. :thumbsup something like that would only cost $150 shipped.

^ its good to know that u have a cheaper mani for sale, i saw ur one on ebay a while back.

when i do my mani im going to get it from that link i threw up on here, buy an flange from ebay and mill out my own turbo flange and throw it all on the surface grinder after im done welding it.

I will definately, definately keep that in mind. I'm not springing the cash for the set up though, so I'd have to run that by Jon (sprsw20) to see what he thought.

Thanks :supercool

my setupis costing less than $1000 and should make about 250whp. but thats just a rough estimate.

parts include:

T3/T4 turbo - $250
log manifold - $100
SR injectors - $50
Volvo FMIC - $17
piping and connectors - $FREE
S-AFC II - $100
Walbro - $70

that equals about $587. we'll see what happens though.

thats pretty close to my cost.

SSAC manifold-150 *
T25 turbo-100
cheapturbolines.com t25 kit-78
10:1 FMU-65*
S14 SMIC and BOV-50*
3" dp (custom)-15
I/C pipes-20*
sr20 o2 housing-26*
silicon couplings (if needed)- free

i think thats all. the ones with * after them, i already have/are on the way. my total is 504 with all prices shipped. so i think thats a good deal. if the motor blows, i already have another one that i could buy.

i dont think you mentioned all the parts that your going to need. you might want to re-read that list and add parts that you forgot. that price might not be accurate.
