Haha, in the continuing effort to fight fanboys of certain motor swaps casey ran into this thread... http://www.engineswaptech.com/forums/thread/1186.aspx

conclusion? vq30, vq35, and ka24 all weigh the same.... and the LS1 outweighs them all.

so all you "the LS1 is lighter" preaching bandwagoners can shut up :greddy:

HARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

hahahahahaha YES! you found it, i was just about to go look for it.

so we know the ka is heavier than the sr and the sr is heavier than the ca.

and we all now that the LSx is..120lbs more than the KA? and a VQ..

this all started when someone mentioned a nissan V8, some LS1 freak came in and wouldnt shut up about how great it was and that its the answer for everything, told me that the LS1 was lighter than the SR! and that the CA was heavier! so he tried telling me the LS1 was lighter than them all? NOT.

i love my CA. cheers mother fuckers

I thought the LS engines weighed north of 400lbs.

haha, they do, but you'll see time and time again people saying its lighter than the SR... which it's not.

but you have to remember alan, you tend to use your brain and not just recycle internet misinformation. this post was for the recyclers!

Granted it is an aluminum block/head, it still has 4 more cyl. It is light for a v8 block, but still heavier than the rest. A traditional iron block small block with iron heads is heavy as hell. 150 for the block, 60 each for the heads, 55 for the crank, 25 for the intake, 15 for the pistons and rods, 5 for the cam, yaddi yadda. well over 500 lbs.

someone pls correct this guy where he says the iron block 5.3 weighs 74 pounds more then alum block 5.7.

do the math. its 47 according to his measurements.

Hmm... something seems off here. I have yet to see a ls1 240 that weighs over 2800 lbs. Most ls swaps I see with full stock interiors and everything are an easy 50+ pounds lighter. If the ls1 does weigh 100+ pounds over the ka this should be pretty much impossible. I cant imagine accessories, exhaust, and transmission making a near 200 lb difference either. Not trying to attack ka's or sr's or anything. Just trying to figure out how the hell these numbers are working out.

I'd believe it weather or not there were Pics because no matter what it has twice the cyl. so that should give it away

#17 ·
My fault for not clicking.

But, what kind of answer is that? Just because there's twice the cyl's, does'nt mean its going to be that much heavier. Don't get me wrong, I'm an import guy, but facts, not word of mouth is what I am mostly concerned with.

haha, but when looking at the shear extra mass of the motor and the use of like materials one would think that most would fail to believe a statement that goes against reason, like the aluminum LS1 weighs less than the aluminum SR because the SR is heavy for an aluminum motor... what?

Or the SR also has a ton of pluming, turbo, inner cooler et al... not to mention is also 5-8 years older.

I think that is something people are missing, when someone says an LS1 weights less, they are talking about the ENTIRE install, not just block-v-block.

waiting for an LS1 owner to come on here and mouth off... not once did I say anythinn about the KA being better. Just destroying a myth, dont get your feelings hurt and dont turn this into an "LS1 vs. every motor created" thread :thumbsup

My feelings are far from hurt but I did get a good laugh . Regaurdless of the internet based "fact" .:nono I not once said anything about the ls1 being better then the ka..I just stated u take the ka and I'll take the big bulky heavy aluminum ls1 and c who finishes the finish line first.. So I advise u not to get your panties in a bunch and lets not turn this into a "LS1 vs. every motor created" thread because it will crush so many hopes and dreams..:thumbsup

haha, this thread had nothing to do with quarter mile times or track times or anything other than getting rid of the myth of the LS1 being magically lighter than any nissan 4 cylinder.

I'll take my KA and you take your LS1 and we'll tie them to our backs and jump in the ocean and see who can hit the ocean floor last :happyfing

No shit the LS1 is heavier, it's a real V8 with the power to back it up. An LS1 powered 240 would smoke all japanese engine swaps at a comparable price. (Granted it would handle like ass.) To each his own.

you have no idea what you are talking about.

placement is more important then actual weight, excluding extreme differences.

im gonna call bullshit on that too.

lets see you build a reliable nissan 4 cylinder for the price of a ls1, that will "Eat it alive"

to make it fare cost wise, lets say you or whoever does all the work themselves.

They'd handle X times better if that damn engine was scooted back into the firewall though :D

Oh wait....this is for street driven cars...

for all the people who are putting down ls1's....how many of you have personal experience with one? have driven any car with one, let alone a 240?

i love poeple that get so defensive over ls1's. i always thought of it as, im going to spend 10k on a motor swap just to get 300whp on a stock motor, so its "reliable", mpg, etc. theres nothing special about an ls1 swap. its just a swap like any other except youve already met mosts' power goals and leave it at that. simple bolt on crap will yield more power than one will ever need. yay...thats so exciting...

now on the other hand if you swap a motor or keep the KA. make that power in a reliable DD. (reliability is all in the tuning) and yes crush an ls1. that says a little than just a swap and some bolt ons. a little more thought process goes into a ka-t etc at that power level. besides saying your motor puts out 100hp per cylinder is quite impressive.

This retarded.. This arguement is just flat dumb.. If your doing a swap ur gonna spend money reguardless so if they amount to spend seems unreachable with endless amounts of time then go buy a honda.. U can build one off ebay for like $1000 .I own a f-body 6speed and all I bought the car because I got it for 4g's ... Nothing wrong 80k motor needed o2's and a maf and plugs.. A g or to more and I could easily put it into any thing I dream of thats a far cry from 10g's which some claim...

Unusiable power .. What the hell ever u can never have enough power.. I dont chase cones so there is never gonna be a limit for me.. Stock ls1 block with a ls6 intake good tuning and a vindicator cam made 440rwhp add some trick flow heads and your sitting around 555rwhp . Crazy gains for 3g .. Its just like boxing and mma u can make a case for any motor on either side to justify ur opinions it all means squat .. I personally like the torque the lsx's make .. If I was to go with a nissan i4 it would be a sr no jdm fan boy its just what i like. If I was to go nissna I6 it would be a rb20.. Its all about personal opinion..
