118 it has speed limiters in 4th and 5th gears... 4th should be set at 6500 rpm and 5th is at 5000

 

my govenor kicks in at 120 exactly...well least it looks like it hits 120 before i feel that hard jerk...

 

can the restricters be taken off or do you need new gears...or what do i need to rebuild my tranny???

 

it's a computer thing i think...my fren with a s13 back in japan got this lil box that fixes that problem...he said it was like 20 bucks but i haven't been able to find it here...forgot what it was called to...

 

There's a wire that you clip on your harness to remove the speed sensor. Check 240sx.org's FAQ, they have the fix in there...

 

Mine stops at 112 (digi speedo), but with tire sizes and all this other shit who knows how fast we are really going.

There are a few faqs on cutting speed limiter, i think you have to clip a wire, and remove the 5th gear sensor.

At least I have no rev limiter (why I don't know), but I have reached close to 8 grand (by mistake).

I bought new in 1989, one of the first 240sx that was available. I work at a Nissan dealership and was lucky to get one when they first were released.

Not knowing anything about the speed limiter in the ecu we went out regularly on road trips. The car had a problem that the Nissan techs were having trouble diagnosing. The car would start on a cold morning and would not idle. It would die out, run rough, etc. Sometimes it ran o.k.

One day we were near Asheville, N.C. on I-40. The 240 was turning a lot of heads since it was the new "hot import". We were going down I-40 and a Z28 passed us. I punched the throttle and we were off. The Z28 was pulling away, but I stayed in the throttle anyway just to see how near we could stay to the Z28. The speedo was buried. IT DID NOT STOP AT 118mph, (like I found out later was the limit). If I remember correctly we were going 132mph. The car was maxed out and it took a while to get there. YES, the Z28 won as you well imagined.

Weeks later or maybe months my brother (he is a Nissan tech) discovered the idle problem was due to a bad ECU. It was replaced under warranty. Sometime later on another speed run, you guessed it, 118 was the max.

So 130 ish is the max on the stock KA24E.

Send it to JWT and they can modify it.

I have a 89 240sx auto, it was made in january of 89, and my speedometer works and everything, i have guessed ive had it to about 135, the speedometer hits the bottom, but the tack keeps on moving, and its auto, not 5-speed, ive beat lots of thing after it shifts into 4th at 110, and it keeps on truckin. I'll top it out one day when theres no more po po's out there, cause that would be bad.

 

And my car has a rebuilt engine with about 3000miles on it, so its bored .020 over, and I have exhaust, and intake, so thats all my mods.

 

You can have the ECU reprogrammed to have this and the rev limiter taken off by Jim Wolf Tech.

 

i hit 230km/hr in my pintara (fwd ka24e) which is about 143mph.

 

all I know is that my mhp only goes to 115mph... but I know I have hit at least 120ish I just looked down and was going past 115 lol I have a 89-90 240sx fstback but I have heard that on a 91 the freez up at 115 I tihnk what ever u mhp says u can go. can't u take off the govener??

 

oh ya intake, headers, flows 3 in top, 3in down pipe, front upper strut bar and short shift

This Takes Like 2 Min. To Do And It Does Work

no way were u at 5.4 G going 165... in a 240sx with a stock eng

 

there are 4 wires (sensors) that plug into the tranny, they should be in a line.. pull out the 2 middle ones... those are the 4th and 5th gear sensors, tape them up and your good to go. the comp doesnt know how fast your going. i read it on a faz somewhere.

your back I see. the DE rev limiter in 5th is at 5.2(5.4?)k, and that is somewhere b/w 115-120mph on your speedometer. so your buddy didn't need to go 165 to pass you. I think that's what you were saying anyways...some punctuation and proper capitilization would do wonders for you.

you have to cut a wire to not just pull the sensors i did it and ive gotten my car well above 130

 

go to 240sx.org FAQ you have to cut he speed sensor wire, I think it is yellow and green not sure though, I have done it but have not taken it past the governor since but, it did solve the problem of my car only revig to 5100 in all gears, apparently the speed sensor was not fuctioning correctly and the computer was thinking I was in 5th in all gears

 

how bout getting a speed/rev limiter from like hks or something i think ...

 

go down a hill... and see how fast you go

 

I've gotten my car up to 119 and didn't feel like taking it any faster, plus I would have missed my exit
