Trunk Arr

oy, my trunk has been a pain in the ass forever. it juggled up and down, it's adjsuted all the way down, and it's tight. it just jiggles!!!!!

so, yesterday, i took a dremel and pliers and took my vengeance on it.
(pics later today)

i peeled off the little piece of metal tacked onto it, and took the dremel to the slots to make them longer, and lowered the latch. gave it a couple layers od electrical tape to make it not rattle, and bang, it works.

one problem remains. opening it.

my pull lever works fine, but though it does press on the release lever, it dosen't pop open at all. just sits there, if i let off the lever it locks back down. the trunk has no "pop". the tension pars that i ASSUME are for tension in keeping it open and closed are there, but i don't think they're working. does anyone know how the trunk's mechanism really works? i need to know how to make this trunk pop open so i don't have to have 2 people to get anything out of it. (one to pull the lever, one to lift the trunk open) it never popped open when it was jiggling ethier, so i don't know.

i havent dissected my trunk yet, but it seems like the majority of my trunk rattling is coming from the area beneath the trunk latch striker...anyone else have this?

the lower part of the latch is held to the trunk by 2 bolts that you can loosen and adjust the lever up or down. my trunk didn't fix it with them all the way down, so i removed the metal piece going over the sliders, and dremmeled the slots down. but still, i'm still in need of what actually makes the trunk POP. i fixed my rattling.

theres also a little slider on the trunk latch lower mechanism that enables/disables the cable trunk release. Even if you move the release yourself it will look like it works, but when you pull the cable it wont do anything. I couldnt pop my trunk for like 6 months till i took a harder look at it and moved the little slider. i can take a pic of it later if you need me to.

i know about that release mechanism, when i was testing it, i was pulling the lever, and the slider was moving over and touching the "open" tab, it just needed some force to pop it open. i make sure that it's in the correct position :p

i don't have that little plastic piece bones has, though. i'll take a look at what i can do with a little Afro-American Engineering, since i finally got the bitch running well again

well, here's what i did.

i made a bracket to space the tortion bars.

it didn't work. the bars were spaced, but i believe the bars i have are too small, since i have an SE wing on a base model trunk. i'll test this theory tommorrow, by removing my wing.

what i did to stop my trunk from jiggling up and down was ghetto. i dremmelled the trunk spacer downwards, so i could move the trunk latch lower than it was normally allowed to go. so my trunk seals tight, and quit buzzing, but i still can't open it....

You have to swap up to SE torsion springs, they're a different tension and are designed to handle the added weight.

So its not the trunk lid moving up and down on the latch that makes noise...
Its the torsion bars? Or it could be one of the two..

I have an SE w/ spoiler (i'll be removing it when I do body work on the car shortly) I wonder will the rattle go away when the spoiler is removed since I have an SE that came w/ the heavy duty bars.

well it wont be for a while maybey a month or so. I'll let you know.:thumbsup Well I jammed some sillacone hose I had from an intake in the seams were the trunk shuts and the rattle went away soi'm guesing its the latch.

i took my wing off and plauyed around. my trunk pops open fine with no wing. cool. but i'm putting on an even larger spoiler now! (think supra, but a bit smaller and flatter on top... it looks AWESOME!)

so i need some SE torsion bars. willing to trade my non se ones to anyone who has the ones from an SE, but removed their spoiler.
