i'd prob. just go custom. 4200k for that is kinda high. i might go back to SR cuz that is about the same if not cheaper. but deffiantly ask about buying some of those parts from the companies if you go custom.

After some consideration and about a month of thinking...i switched from getting an SRswap to turboing my KA..i felt i wanted more torque off of my engine..besides....im getting a 300zx soon as a next project ill be able to enjoy both cars. It is way cheaper to customize a turbo than buying a turbo. Im having the tuner who did Duys car tune my car and build my turbo, my sponsor will then upgrade..i chose the t3/60-1 turbo to work with which would be good to at least 550whp at 10psi(*edit 300rwhp)-$850, will do the pipings which wont cost too much, manifold for 450, BOV, and now im debating whether to get a huge XS IC or an OEM one. This should be finished by the end of February and we are going to see how fast it will go before we get forged rods and pistons. Im upgrading to 100 shot of NX.:D *note* these prices are from my sponsors and friends from shops i know so you may not get the same quote, but it is still cheaper to customize your own turbo* Goodluck!

Sorry...a T3/60-1 isn't going to give you 550whp at 10psi. 10psi will be good for about 250whp, tops. In fact, a T04E 50 trim compressor would even be more efficient at 10psi than the 60-1. You'd make more power with the 50trim T04E.

Who suggested that turbo? Find someone else to give you tech advice...that turbo is a horrible match.

You know, Duy built Duy's car. He has been turbocharging KA's for many years...I bought a turbo kit from him in '99.

Actually i talked to Duy myself since hes here in Houston,,and Jason did the tuning and Duy quoted that *Jason is the best tuner in Houston* hes worked on Vipers and NSX so i trust them very much..and with Jasons tuning..yes that turbo will be good for 550whp...sorrie but he doesnt bs...i can show you videos of the cars he has worked on..and Duy upgraded his turbo...as a matter of fact...Duys SC is sitting at Jasons shop right now bc thats his next project...anymore inquiries..you can pm me or email me...

*edit: i will get 300 rear wheel hp out of that*

silly idea. get a sr.
No...itll be a torque machine...another guy here is going to do a swap, same car, same year so we are going to see who will have the better time,,that should be fun...:D
and whether to get an SR or turbo KA is a matter of preference...both are good ideas as long as the maintence is good..

d240t2- okie i see where you thought i was saying that it made 550 at 10psi..sorrie i just corrected myself....
and the turbo is the same turbo jason used in his hatch and he ran 520whp at 24psi and ran a 10.9 @ 131. If you would like to talk to him, email me...hes a great driver as well..he was driving Duys car in the video...

I've met the guys. I am from Houston, remember.

Duy built that car. The guy you are referring to tuned the Haltech. Duy built the motor in his garage. He put together the turbo kit. I remember when he was putting it together, because he'd call Chris May sometimes when I was over at Chris's detail shop...and they'd chat about stuff. Duy was asking about buying the injectors and fuel rail through Chris, because Chris has an account with JWT. They decided that the discount wouldn't be worth it, because they'd have to ship it twice.

And you won't make 300whp with a T3/60-1 at 10psi without Nitrous. I wish you could. I have been down that road, twice, once with Duy's help...

PS Remember, there is a difference between knowing something for yourself, from experience and knowledge, and knowing somebody you trust to have that knowledge for you.

I changed my mind...300whp is possible at that power level, but it is going to depend on the tuning and the other factors surrounding the turbo kit (cams, exhaust, etc.) I think that you'll probably have to run slightly higher boost than 10psi for 300whp.

The 60-1 compressor is not optimized for small motors running high boost, like ours. It is optimized for larger motors running small boost, like a 5.0 Mustang. The 50 trim T04E would be a better compressor.

Thanks for the lookout Dennis but i still trust Jason. He takes real pride in his work and will let him build my turbo..his hatch has not broken down yet and still exuhberates a vast amount of power..i saw the type R motor he put in at Lightspeed. But thanx again for the heads up.

Not to nag you, but if you are hearing conflicting info, wouldn't you want to check into it?

You could check around and see what others say about the turbo choice. You could ask your guy why he chooses that turbo and not the one that others suggest (because I guarantee, if you go over to freshalloy asking about the 60-1 compressor, they'll tell you to get the T04E 50 trim).

I mean, it just seems silly not to investigate more. Would you like me to show you some compressor maps and explain why the T04E 50 trim is better than the 60-1? Remember, I don't have anything to gain here...I am just trying to help you out.

no thats fine..im not an expert and any advice is welcome...teh only ppl i have talked to are Jason (st00pid), Duy, Ricky, and my sponsor. Other ppl have talked to me about it as well but they have never worked on their cars..only heard by word of the mouth..so i dont take those into consideration..Duy was going to help me with my setup..ive just been so busy to go see him and hes always out:D but hopefuly i can go see him next week. Ill still take your advice into consideration and im sure you would be able to help other noobies out
