Yes, valve springs can be too stiff. Too stiff of valve springs will cause increased valve seat wear and increased load. (friction is increased, and more power is used just to open the springs) The trick is finding a valve spring that isn't too stiff to cause excessive wear and friction, but at the same time not too loose to causing valve float.

Just got a question for all you guys that rebuilt the motor and upgraded the valve springs what kind of springs did you guys use? I plan to run tomei 280 cams and solid lifters is there such a thing as the valve spring being to stiff?

O I see that makes sense, what set of springs should i go with i found 220-275LBs i plan to rev to 8600 or so RPM.
