Thanks man, practice makes perfect. Next film I buy will be burl wood. I'm going to do some interior parts in my roommate's honda... And when I get better I'm going to do the centers of his asanti wheels, intake tube and valve cover with burl wood to match.

driver seat done. The bubbling will go away with use. The ripple in the bottom of it may not. Had this been someone else's seat, I would have redone it. Since it's mine, and I've decided I want to go a different route I'm just going to rock it until I have time and money to switch it up. The top of the passenger seat is done, So I might as well finish the bottom and the headrest. Practice makes perfect.

What I've learned. I will never again use leather this thick for anything other than motorcycle seats or belts lol... Yes, it is belt leather thick.

I'm uncertain whether the 1/2" foam in the middle is also a problem. I think if I used a thinner material, the 1/2" foam could still come out nice... But I'm not pleased with the outcome of this one... I almost didn't want to post it... But I'm here to share my failures as well as my successes.

Back looks good though heh

Thanks man.

I bet yall forgot about this thing... So did I. until I saw it up on a shelf and decided to do some sanding.

Then I had to work on that lincoln town truck in the background so we could get it out the door and get this minivan in. The minivan needs collision repair. So a reason to buy more bondo AND a little cash to throw at my car.

Pic of the truck. As warning, if you ever see this thing on the road STAY AWAY! Someone thought it would be a good idea to weld the front half of a lincoln town car to the back half of a truck frame. I refused to be under it when we stabbed the motor.

hey! you're alive! hope you've been good. I'd rather wood grain the wheels, but I plan on reselling them as soon as I get wheel money. these are just to get me rolling on something wider than a 205 tire. I think some mustang owner will eat these wheels up if the centers are carbon fiber. if it comes out like bad, I'll just paint over them.

I finally got my hands on a trough big enough to dip a wheel.

If you didn't notice, I won't be trying to dip the lips. Just the centers. After the dip I will go back and paint the lips. Tomorrow is D-day. If it comes out good, I will buy more CF film for the rest of them. If it doesn't, no harm no foul. I'll just knock them back down and paint them.

Well... It turned out ok. I'm honestly shocked at how well it climbed the lips. I didn't even prep the lip because I didn't want to waste the paint/primer when I'm going to sand it down and repaint it anyways.

I strongly believe all of my distortion/rips in the material happened because my film wasn't wide enough. The film from mydipkit.com is only 19" wide. I think I need at least 22" wide to perfectly dip an 18" wheel with a big lip like these. I may look into another company for film. Possibly a commercial supplier.

I also used a brighter silver for the base coat. I think the silver that came with the kit was too dark. It darkened after clear. So hopefully this looks darker after clear coat tomorrow.

This was right after dip. Before rinse. I think this is what it will look like after clear. In which case, I will be happy with the centers. It won't be until after I do the rest, before I decide where my paint line will be (at the line at the base of the lip, or make my own lines at the base of the spokes.

After rinse, it got a little brighter than I was hoping.

I'm not finished with this one by a mile. They won't be perfect, but they will serve my purpose well. Plus when I'm done with them someone else will like them.

Thanks guys.

(I wouldn't put it on my car)
I know what you mean. I hate torque thrust style wheels in any color. But for $150 on CL I can't really lose. Plus I needed some wider wheels. I'll eventually sell them when I buy some xxr 968's... Sure I'd rather have equips, but I can't justify spending $2500+ for USED wheels. If I come across some fr 1k or less, I'll probably get them.

It's a little darker after drying (didn't take pics outside but I did take it out there, so it's not just darker because its in the garage lol). My roommate is painting a car tomorrow (I thought it was today), so I'm going to have him clear the wheel when he clears the car.

Nothing wrong with a set of XXR's IMO. I bought mine new from a guy on a local facebook group for $400, then bought some tires of Discount tire Direct for another $400

I also got H&R spacers for the front and rear to go real wide (need over fenders! ugh)

(Ignore the nasty gap in the rear, gotta sell my Tein coils and get something else)

Image

You could probably sell those torq thrusts for a few hundred and get a set of XXR's on the cheap

that's a nice zenki you got there. what size tires are you running? The 968's are still too new to be getting a good deal. I think they just started shipping preorders a couple months ago.

my 20mm spacers just came in. which is going to kick these wheels out about 15mm. but I didn't want to deal with replacing all my lug studs to run 5mm slip ons. guess we're in the same boat needing overs lol.

my roommate hit the wheel with 4 coats of clear.

Edit: I FINALLY understand now... The silver I chose has too much flop. In the shade it's ok, indoors/night time it looks good, but in the sun it just looks silver from 10ft away. I would do a different silver, but I may as well just stick with this silver so one wheel doesn't look different than the rest.

Outside somewhat in the sun (we have an overcast today)

Not even going to lie. Kind of pissed about the tears in the lip because the pattern came out best on the lips.

The wheels don't look too bad. It's a shame they don't have a darker CF pattern though, like black vs. silver. I wonder how they will look on a car?

Thanks for the Zenki love, lol

I got a little carried away with my wheel / tire setup

Currently running the following

XXR 521's (18x10 all around)
Nankang (I know I know..) 255/35/18 tires all around
H&R 15mm spacers up front to clear the coil overs (stupid old teins)
H&R 20 (or 25mm) spacers in the rear
Every Isis suspension arm except the rear toe arms

It looks bit silly from the side, definitely looking forward to getting new coil overs and overs, but the handling improved dramatically.

After another $500 or so worth of mill work he didn't charge me for. It happened.

Definitely didn't forget to set the alarm in the shop tonight <3

I also dipped another wheel. Tomorrow I should do the third.

Discussion starter · #338 ·
I got the third wheel painted, but it started to sprinkle so I didn't dip it. I did however test fit some 22"s. My roommate was jealous of how flush they were with no spacers or anything. They're going on the ranger after they get cleaned up and the lips painted black.

My engine builder gave me some valve covers... But they are like a half inch too short. So now I need to order some taller valve covers and figure out where to relocate the coil packs.

I had just enough material left to do my intake. So I'm going to do my intake. Which means I'm going to repaint my fuel rails... Whenever I decide on a color.

Used the rest of the silver paint that came in the kit.

I'll be dipping it tomorrow morning in hopes that it will be dry before my roommate starts spraying clear.
