well there have been several recalls but other than that they do make the car and driver list. I'd still do a little more research and look around a bit though. Are you looking to buy new or used?

My first car I got on my own was a focus and the only problem that I had with it were the recalls. I didn't mind it...it grew on me I dont think I would get another one though.

 

Excellent car. The recalls are usually stupid things. Like the plastic piece on the Apillar. A knob or something retarded. I would recommend the SVT one, specially the new European Appearance Package. Or atleast the ZETEC engine.. Anyhow good car overall but really bad gas mileage. Regardless of what the window sticker says it is really bad on gas. I would suggest buying a pre owned too because they take a huge depreciation hit. You can buy a preowned 2002 for about 10,000 or less and new they are anywhere from 15-*19k.

my good friend had one, and was swamped with recalls. twice his car wouldnt start because of a locked ignition or some nonsense. so he couldnt even get the car down to the ford dealership. once it locked on him at his house before work (over 3 hours late) and another at class (couldnt get home for hours). if i were you looking for a daily driver, just get a 90's integra or civic, and use the THOUSANDS of dollars you saved towards your SR project.

 

actually a '90s honda would cost ~ the same as a 2000 ford focus. I just got this year's consumer reports and the SVT Focus got #1 on compact and sport compact, about 10 points(out of a possible 100) above the civic(2nd place) in both catagories. However they didn't list the focus as one of their best cars to buy.

well, an SVT focus is not your average focus, and you pay for it too. That is if you can even get a hold of one.

The recalls with the Focus are not going to be a big issue if you buy new because for the most part the initial issues with the focus have been sorted out. I would say get yourself a little five speed zx3 and go have a little fun, they are cool cars IMO


Neo, I would look into your issues with the zetec's gas milage, my sister sissy drives it and gets great milage, i drive it hard and get shit, so it can guzzle if you open her up, that and you have a wagon so............

 

Don't like them and wouldn't buy it for a daily driver. I would actually buy something used, inexpensive and cheap....I would get a Civic (EG6). The only Focus I kinda like is the RS.....but its not in the US.

 

great car.........other than the design........i hate the exterior, and i hate the interior; but that's all personal taste and doesn't take away it's positive qualities.

people............whe fuggin cares about recalls, you bring your car in on a saturday for a couple hours, and wander around looking at the new cars on the lot while they fix yours for free.......quit complaining you complaining complainers
