What is the longevity of the KA?

I realize there are a million factors, so don't yell at me...

Supposing an S13 is properly taken care of... Not driven too hard, properly maintained, all fluids checked/changed regularly, etc... How many miles very roughly will the KA handle? Are they like Honda engines which can run for 400,000 miles and not even hiccup?

Basically, will buying an S13 with 150,000 miles be a good investement? Or might I start running into problems around 200k? Sorry if this question sounds dumb, but I don't know a whole ton about engines.

Thanks a lot guys!

I dunno where you are getting your info from, and i will assume you are exagerating when you said that about hondas..400,000 miles with out a hicup...:p ...Only a few rebuilds in between..now a mid to late 80s Cressida i would believe...I have seen those hit 340,000+ miles with just minor work done..400,000 miles i a huge milestone..anyhow back to your question.. The KA is taken care of properly should 200,000 miles with minor work, just normal wear and tear.. I pulled mine out at 176,000 and still running strong, just noise coming from the timing chain..but i have seen several KAs well over the 200,000 mark..Is all on you take care of the engine, and how the previous owners took care of it..Any motor will last a long time when properly cared for.. I say buy it..

Neo,

Thanks for the help. But about Hondas, I actually have two friends with Honda engines that are over 400k miles and still running perfectly. 1 Acura Legend and 1 Accord. They are actually racing to see who can get the most, which is cool because they both lend there cars out when anyone wants to take a road trip! I have also seen plenty of accords with upwards of 250k, 300k, so I stand by what I said earlier.

Heh, 204,000 miles and just lost the stock alternator, slave, and master cylinders. Beyond that, everything in the engine compartment looks stock. No real problems except the ever-present timing chain and need for a new tranny (due to the failure of the clutch during a road trip). Planing on keeping this engine until I manage to build a new KA24E from the block up, so I hope it lasts a bit longer.

may i ask why your building another KA? and why a SOHC most of all?

Always wondered just what a all-engine SOHC KA could do.
IMO...i wouldnt wana be the first to find out;) i think all motor is more expensive to get the same performance of a forced induction engine. if anything why not go DOHC atleast? or a original setup for NA would be sr20ve rwd....(all this is in my own opinion so dont rag on me;) ) i should right that more often just to safe guard myself haha

Ok I was just looking through this thread and I saw this. Yeah I would love to be the guy that gets to drive the 400K honda. I mean what happens when you are on your road trip and plop there goes a rod oh well...lol.. When I worked at Acura I had them coming all the time for radiators and other things. Don't tell me they haven't had anything doen to them. Honda radiators are bad and the drivetrain is bad also... Stubby

Well I got my car at about...140K about. 1992 240sx and it is now at 164K. Engine runs great but today on my way to work my throwout bearing went and which it was making noise for a while now, so now I'm going to order the 3 main parts of the clutch (clutch, pressure plate, and the throw out bearing) at Nissan tommorow and get it takin care of hopefully on saturday. Have to go to junk yard and find some good torsion bars, power sterring hose, and the torsion bars for the front. Then she should be good cause I just fixed my brakes like 2 days ago lol. Runs great and strong with that many miles. My uncles Nissan had over 300K which was a pickup truck all pimped out hehe. My grandpa's old accord was over 400K so neo I think you need to rethink. Honda's run forver if you take care of them, just like Nissans. Yeah hond'a are played out and many of you hate them but they are good cars period.
