As long as your wheels are less than 8" wide, and you're running street tires,
I say go for STX. The PAX index is much better for STX than SM. (.804 vs .845)

 

last I heard swaped 240's(sr20det???) were in sm.

 

Maybe there's some rule I'm missing there. I know a lot of people run in SM and DSP.. I always thought that was due to either wheel widths being too wide, or people running R compounds or slicks.

 

no if you do any engine swap other than the EXACT same engine swap you are now in Street Mod. too bad, because if you run Novice or any pax factor affected class you are screwed. very very bad pax factor. sorry. and if you dont believe me buy a handbook and read for yourself.

The SCCA rulebook doesn't work by telling you what you can't do. It works, by telling you what you can do. There are no rules in any class below Street Mod that allow you to swap engines to an engine that was not offered in the car.

In Street Prepared, it does allow you to swap engines between cars that are listed on the same line. For instance, they put all of the 240sx on the same line in the rule book. Because of that, you can put a KA24DE into a 1990 240sx and still be legal for that class.

I just raced last week and they put me in STS.
Which exactly is a faster class... STS, STX or SM?

 

SM has the hightest pax out off those three with .845
STX is .804
