Where/what/how to buy?

Hey everyone, I've been on here before, mainly roaming and not posting but since i have made up my mind about what i want to do with my car, I have some questions.

A while ago, my father bought me a 96 240sx (I'm 16). It's nice, I've gotten all the dings out of it, and a nice red paint job. After a bit of thinking, i've decided to upgrade it performance-wise. I got a guy to convert my car from auto to manual, but we have moved away and i can't contact him now, so I'll ask you guys.

I wanted to start on the suspension of my car, then move to maybe a sr20 swap, and some other stuff down the road. I just don't know where to start with the suspension though. I really don't know what i would need or what brands to buy..... heck i don't even know where i could get my parts!

I guess what i'm trying to ask is what do i need to upgrade to make my car's suspension perform well, where should i buy my parts, and what brands should I buy?

Note: I'm not really into drifting, but I would like some parts that would leave that option open.(that may help with the brand selection)

Thanks in advance

most name brands are gona cost u alot ... especially if u are looking for proformance ,

in my experience , megan racing coilovers are the shit . but if u dont want that much proformance just find some ebach (sp) springs and get a set of shocks as well as sway bars

a person that actually wants to go suspension before power...nice idea mangg

most coilovers are gonna cost you a pretty penny...but they are great...megan coilovers are a nice entry coilover as they are 800 dollars and are not of bad quality...they just aren't a good choice if you are a coilover connoisseur and know what to look for... another place to get coilovers from is stance...they're really gaining in popularity fast, and they're great quality, but will cost you around 1100 or so dollars....another cheaper coilover system is ksports...they're cheap, but ive heard good and bad things about them...just do some research on what different companies have to offer in your budget...and maybe you'll end up with enough money to buy a jdm air freshener

if you dont have that kind of money to throw around, get some kyb agx shocks, or koni yellow shocks and some nice springs...some people say they love their spring/shock combo, some say they can't wait to get coilovers

other things to replace in the suspension for a starting upgrade are subframe bushings ("energy bushing" kits are very popular), your tie rod ends also could probably stand to be replaced

Thanks everyone Yea I knew it was going to be a penny, I have 4k saved. I just wanted to work on suspension so i don't go overboard and crash into something..... ya know, ruin everything i worked for. I was wondering, are there any websites that i could buy parts from, or do i have to go to a tuner shop? There are not many of those around here (in Richmond VA) so i would have to find a work-around.

also some suggestions for suspension upgrades. strut tower bars, adjustable rucas, bushings (already stated) and so much more, just search around, you'll find stuff

Thanks guys, I'll update you all on the progress or my build down the road

Edit: Ok I've been looking at Touge Factory, I think I want the Tein RS Coilovers, they are kinda expensive but i can make up the price in 3 - 5 months. Does anyone have these? If so, how do they perform?

Edit:Edit: Ok if i were to buy the tien coilovers, would i need shock absorbers and that stuff? I don't think so, but to make sure, I'm asking.

For nice and cheap, i would go with NISMO S-Tune "Coilovers", its about an inch/inch and a half drop, and has a much meaner spring rate than any other spring/strut combo. On that note, they are not really coilovers, but matched springs and struts (KYB I think), and costs me ~ 650 shipped to my door for all four, fully assembled (i hate f'ing around with ghetto spring compressors:). However, they are also not adjustable...

Can u post up a pix of ur car with that setup if u have 1. i am about to get the same combo but mite go for the sports instead. the only problem is that it mite be to much of a drop and the AGX mite not hold up to it, for say like atleast 2 years and then maybe ill get some better coil kit. i want more of a drop thats y.

Thanks...
