Why is my car slower at full throttle than when not?

I noticed a little while back that my S13(KA24DE) would not pick up speed very quickly at full throttle. But today I was driving and decided to test some stuff out. The RPMs build up way slower at full throttle, making me slower than when I just press down maybe less than half way. I notice at around 4K is when it really slows down.

What could be the problem?
I plan on getting the motor swapped this summer, but I wanted to take my car out to the track to give the motor one last farewell abuse, but I think it would be much more fun to go full throttle.

No.

When you mash the pedal to the floor, the engine will be getting more fuel at a higher rate; causing an initial bog. Where as if you apply the pedal slowly and steadily to the floor as the car accelerates, it will accelerate harder due to there not being an initial 'choke' of fuel being dumped into the combustion chambers.

3 things come to my mind:

1. plugs/wires/cap & rotor need to be changed

2. timing a bit retarded

3. change the air filter

^^or any combination of the 3.

Although nizmobro and onthechip would normally be spot on I have a question for yoy,Does it seem as though you cant get above 4500 rpms or will it continue to build slowly past that to red line at full throttle?

If it wont really go past 4500 at full throttle then the 4th and 5th gear sensors are faulty and unplugging them will solve this problem.

Thanks, I can at least have some ideas of what to look at.

I know the transmission was swapped from auto to manual keeping the auto ECU, if that helps anyone think of an issue. Could unplugging the gear sensors like katfan said make a difference?

I'm gonna have to do a look over on everything tomorrow when I finally have time to.

Update. I took a quick look under the car. I'm not sure if I still should go with unplugging the sensors or not, but I did notice 2 wires and plugs unplugged. The both looked like this

This one was towards the front of the tranny and the other toward the rear. I was wondering what these were for?

I wanted to also know if unplugging the sensors could be the solution and help. I am not too knowledgeable on transmissions and such, so I searched a little bit and found which ones were which on the transmission from NICO.

Blue and green being 4th and 5th. Would all I have to do is unplug those? What should I do with the hanging plugs?

Sorry if I'm super noobish, I am trying to learn:gaah:

sorry it took a while to get back but yes just unplug them and maybe ziptie them up if the wires aren't to brittle...if this is your problem you will notice the fix immediately...its cheap and easy and worth a shot...furthermore unplugging these will not hurt your car at all.

^^Pretty sure those sensors won't matter. Awesome if they do tho. The other is your reverse sensor for the lights (which SHOULD stay plugged in), and the other IIRC is for neutral. Good to see you troubleshooting this in earnest... But I really think the issue is in the engine bay somewhere.

Looked at them today, turns out 4th and 5th sensors were already unplugged. 5th was just cut.

I don't see anywhere to plug the reverse sensor to though. I've known about the lights not working, so that is definitely the culprit there.

The car doesn't seem to be as slow as before. I think the problem may have been air flow. Took out the MAF and cleaned it up a bit. Seemed to run better after doing this. Still seems slow, but I haven't driven another 240 to compare. RPMs though seem to be building up better and not slowing down as much.
Not too many places around me to get it up to speed to really test it. I'll have to wait til monday morning on the way to work on the freeway.

Got super bad yesterday driving home. Hardly any power. And later I started it and it was idling funny and wanted to stall. This morning I tried driving to work. Car stalled multiple times at idle. Had to keep the revs up to keep it started. Wanted to die when driving too. I think it has to be a fuel problem.
I need to try and get this fixed soon or a new ka is in the neat future.

get a aftermarket intake! I remember the stock air box doesnt give much feedback to the pedal. When i got my intake, my engine woke up. Way more responsive, and a much larger power band. I know that when it is hot and humid out, say 85 degrees and up your car will feel slower and les responsive than say 6 in the morning when its still 55 degrees out. Food for thought!

I just put one on. That was the problem the other day. The rubber connecter piece from the intake pipe to the manifold is really short. Thought I had it on good, but since it was so short, it didn't have much flex room when I started the engine and it popped off.
So I shoved it in there real good and tight, and now the car is running fine.
