Car "clicks" but wont turn over. when it does turn over, it starts fine. I just replaced the blue starter relay under the hood, near the battery (with the 2 plugs connecting to it) Apparently that goes bad a lot, but now its new and nothing. I cant find any other starter relays or fuses. Its done this once or twice before, but now its getting worse and wont turn over at all. Usually if I let it sit for a bit after I try a few times, it turns over fine. No idea what it could be, any help??

Thanks

P.S. - its a 5sp manual, I know its not the clutch pedal switch because when i turn the key to start, then push the clutch in, I hear the starter relay mentioned above click on.

I replaced the starter about a couple months ago with a new one. Will double check connections but im sure they are all good and tight

well not too long ago i relocated my battery and generally cleaned up all the wiring up under the hood. Used brand new wire where needed, and have a 2 gauge wire running from the battery to under the hood.

just replaced the starter under warranty even though the other one tested fine (only on there for 4 months) and still nothing. The clicking that I hear is actually the starter solenoid clicking on, but the starter doesnt turn over. no idea what is going on, good voltage going to everything. I dont think its the battery, because the car would at least turn over slowly, right? I metered the solenoid on the output side that goes directly to the starter, and no voltage. Any ideas?? I have no idea what it could be except a bad starter solenoid, but I doubt 2 solenoids would be bad in a row on a new and almost new starter assembly.

all relays/fuses are good. found a thread on NICOClub where the guy had similar problems, was told to replace the N&P relay, but I dont have an N&P relay on my car for some reason.

yeah im going to try jumping the car later tonight after work. if that does the trick, new battery it is. It has been acting up sometimes, turning the motor very slowly, etc...

the battery reads 11.9 volts with the car not running.

Jumped the car today and got nothing still. Anyone have any ideas??? I know the engine is not locked up because it was running fine with no abnormal problems a few nights ago or so.

should i try tapping the solenoid with a hammer or something, even though its brand new?? I can hear the loud "click" made by the solenoid every time I try to crank it, but the starter doesnt turn...

When jumping the car put pos to the pos terminal on the battery. The neg connect to a clean spot on the block. If your jumping off a battery charger let it charge for a bit. May have to do the same from a car. It's all about the amps. If your battery is stone dead or has a bad cell you'll have no outcome but what your having now.

I was jumping from my other vehicle, an Xterra, it has a big battery with definitely enough amps, but still got nothing. It wouldnt matter then if the battery was bad, because my car was connected to a good battery and still nothing!

dude it sounds like a starter prob. i have had a starter go bad then bought a new one and got a bad one out of the box before. try another starter that you know works

3 starters and you still hear the sylinoid click? I'd say the next thing to look over extremely well is the main 12v feed for the starter itself. The sylinoid may still click but that wire could be faulty. Check for voltage, make sure both ends are not corroded.

yeah I got it fixed now I think. it was actually the starter RELAY clicking like i originally said, not the solenoid. the wire from the ignition module (where the key goes) to the relay was i think broken somewhere. I replaced the whole length of wire and it starts up fine. I'll see how long this lasts, hopefully that really was the problem...
