why you should get an adjustable FPR

well so you got a walbor fuel pump because everyone told you, you would need it.
so you did.
you put it in.
and now your gas mileage is hell and your car reeks of gas.
the soloution?
get a nismo FPR.
i just got mine in today and turned the pressure down.
before the nismo fpr pressure was 46psi with the vac hose attatched and 56psi with the vaccum line off.
a far cry from the factory spec of 36psi with and 44 psi without.
the car seems to run leaner at idle and feels better under boost.
the nismo fpr package says it will work on the s13 sr20, r32 rb26, r33 rb25, r33 rb26; but it will work on the rb20 with some tinkering.
i put the fpr outlet into a vice and straighetened out the outlet port a tad since it is bent from factory, if you do this be careful as too much and you can ovalize the tubing.
i paid 93$ for mine but it will cost you 110-120 at your local dealer.

*edit*
oh yeah, on the rb20 its nearly impossible to remove the stock fpr without drilling out one of the screws that holds it in or dissassembling the intake mani or removing the fuel rail.
i chose to drill out the screw then slot it with a dremmel and then use a flat head to back it out.
then i put in hex head bolts and used a hex wrench to install them, works better than the shitty brass screws that were in there.

Cool. I just installed mine a few minutes ago. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge, and if so what kind and how is it mounted? Also how do I decrease the pressure? Do I loosen the lock nut and turn clockwise and make the bolt go down?

Thanks for the info,

i actualy borrwed a gauge from one of the techs at work.
just get any pressure gauge that can be used with liquids.
put in inbetween the fuel filter and the rail.
to increace pressure crank it in, back it out to lower.
its set at the stockish 36psi under vaccum and 44 without.
i run mine at 37.5ish, just a tad richer than it would be.

Everyone thought I was crazy when I came up with this idea, remember!

The Walbro fuel pump is so strong that it flows more fuel than the stock regulator can handle. Now I tell EVERYONE they need it. Hopefully this will help people to understand, its not the motor, its not Nissan's design, its just that damn upgraded pump!

How about somone trying to make 350+ WHP woudn't the extra fuel pressure help out by letting the injectors flow slightly more fuel? I have a PFC so I can turn the pulse down at idle to keep it from running too rich.

You can tune for higher pressure, but the stock maps are set for the 35PSI at idle, 43 with no vacuum. The Nismo regulator is adjustable enough to allow enough fuel to flow that you maintain the 35PSI at idle, but the stock regulator is NOT able to handle the extra flow.

Another point of consideration is when running high boost...

If you're running a Walbro 255hp without an AFPR, it can run as much as 55psi at idle.

The FPR adds 1psi of fuel for every 1psi of boost, then at 20psi, you've got 75psi of fuel pressure, which can be dangerous!

i would strongly reccomend it.
i think the problem ive been having with it running too lean up top (~13's afrs) is because the stock fpr cant handle the fuel flow and it just goes through the rail and past the injectors.
the car feels better throughout the rev band, smooth and not as bogged as it used to.
also it idles now and when i come to a stop it doesnt almost stall because of the fuel pressure.
i know when i had the gauge on it and revved the engine the fuel pressure went up like crazy.
the nismo one holds it at 37 at idle and 45 without vaccum with v. little adjustment.
i would say that if it nets me 4mpg more then it is well worth the 93$ i paid for it.
also if it solves the lean out problem i have then its 2 birds with one stone.

Should I Get A Fpr Or Just Order The Microtech? Or Both?

Yeah.... I Was Just Making Sure. Some Kid Interested In My Car Was Asking About It And I Told Him To Just Get The Fpr And Tune It But He Said He Wants A Standalone No Matter What.

I know this is the RB forum, but I have a KA24DE turbo that runs rich, particularly in lower RPM and idle... does the Nismo FPR work with the KA fuel rail? I know the SR20DET and KA24DE rails are the same. Is that the FPR you guys are buying for your RB's?

what about the FPR you find on ebay such as OBX or Weapon R they say they are adjustable from 0-100psi and they come with the gauge, are these worth it or are they a waste of money?
I have one of the Weapon R ones in my garage that a friend got me a loooong time ago, if anyone knows how to get them to fit, tell me plz

On my R33 clip there is a second slightly larger FPR mounted inline on the shock tower for the return line.
I'm debating whether to transfer it- those Nissan engineers installed it for some reason.

ah.
that is really a damper for the fuel line.
the rb20 has one too but it is actualy on the fuel rail.
its supposed to minimize fuel pulsations in the rail, so you can either keep it to ditch it, completely up to you.
