Z32 brakes

Few questions..

1) The "caliper kit" I've read about from a Nissan dealer includes four pins and two clips to do both front calipers, correct? Anyone have the part numbers? I need to order them over the phone.

2) Will the stock 7 spoke wheels clear the Z32 front calipers without wheel spacers?

3) I’m going to have the front rotors drilled for the four lug hub, anyone found a good way to do this and get it centered? Obviously it would suck to even be slightly off. S13 wheels are 4X114.3, correct?

I've got all these parts on order:

Z32 calipers F
Z32 rotors F
S13 rotors R
Projectsilvia SS lines F&R
Porterfield R4S pads F&R
Speed Bleeders F&R
ATE Superblue fluid
Falken Azenis Sports
ES Master Bushing set

I'll have fun this weekend. :gaylaugh

I searched several forums and couldn't come up with a definite answer for each one. Thanks for the info guys!

1 - not sure. you did it the expensive way though. autozone sells rebuilt Z32 calipers for $150 for the front pair
2 - depends. there are two different versions of the stock 7 spoke wheels. one will clear the 26mm brakes fine, the other won't. NEITHER will clear the 30mm z32 calipers.
3 - any machine shop can redrill them and get it spot on. yes, the 240sx is 4x114.3

I did get the calipers from autozone. I'm talking about the pins and clips that do not come with reman unloaded calipers and must be sourced from a Nissan dealership.

what size spacers do i need for the stock front wheels to clear 30mm calipers?

ive got a 91 FB LE, know which version wheels i have?

Ahhhh gotcha, I bought the loaded calipers :)

My guess is that you'd need about a 5-6mm spacer to clear the 30mm calipers.

I've never figured out if the different type of 7 spoke/teardrop wheels depend on year or not. Either way, the two styles look identical save for the design on the inside of the spoke :)

I got the calipers in today (actually from Advanced Auto). 30mm Aluminums baby and they came with new clips and pins. I was gonna have em powdercoated, but damn. They're so clean and silver, so I'll leave em how they are. :)

kaptainkrollio, are these the kind you got?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...s/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7923604531&category=42614&sspagename=WDVW

did you get new studs?

options auto salon sells h&r dsr 5mm spacers with new studs for $55.

edit: I just got those ebay spacers.. will give em a shot.

I'm just going to return my stock calipers.

Not sure about the MC yet. If the brake pedal is too soft or the fronts lock up too early, I'll throw a Z32 master cylinder on. I'm probably going to get a proportioning valve anyways, so that will help a bit with the bias.

how big are our brake lines and their fittings?

Sweet, well I've got everything in except the shim kit. I ended up drilling the rotors myself on a press and used the new 4-lug rear rotors as a template. Turned out perfectly.

I'd like to get started doing the conversion now. Is it okay to not use the shim kit for a few days? Should I just wait? These hott aluminum calipers are just begging to be put on and I'm bored right now.

Also, with the set of front Porterfield pads, two of the pads have a small metal clip sorta thing extending from the bottom of metal backing plate. Is this the inside or outside pad?

#15 ·
yeah the pads with the ware indecators go on the inside, or with might rub the hat of the disk. might want to bend that the "indecate" whenthe pad is almost toast, not 20k miles b4 they are...

never heard of Porterfield, most Zers use metal masters or Hawk or green stuff. are they any good?

#16 ·
Porterfields are a step above Hawk and miles ahead of Metal Masters, AEM, Green Stuff, Axis Ultimas.

I have an OE shim kit from my Nissan source coming tomorrow.

As for the bushings, I've only been working on the front so far. Sway bar bushings and end link bushings took about 15 minutes to do each side. T/C rod sucks. I've got one side done. The left side's bolt siezed to the bushing sleeve and absolutely would NOT come out after days of panther piss on it, heat and banging with a hammer. So I finally just cut the bolt with a die grinder and will replace it. I'm not even messing with the LCA bushings right now because I don't have a ball joint puller. I've got another set of hands comin for the rear bushings and all around brake job install tomorrow.

I wasn't able to find a set of coilovers that I wanted, so my new Azenis Sports wont be put on for our last autox of the season on Sunday. :( :(

lean & msaskin:

how did you get the z32 calipers from autozone? did you order them online? because i checked their site for them and the only calipers for the 300zx that they have are from fenco, but it says fenco_reman, so im guessing these are just oem calipers that have been remanufactured by fenco?
please let me know. thanks.

Just go into a store. They'll have to order it for you, but it'll only take 2 or 3 days.

They are just OEM remans...looks like they bead blast the outside to clean them up then rebuild them with new pistons, seals, etc...

I love mine.

Paid $200 for autozone, got $50 back for the core charge, total of $150.

It's the loaded caliper set for a '91 300zx (the 26mm aluminum calipers)

~matt

Yes, they are OEM rebuilds that say nissan on them.

Yes, I returned my 240sx calipers in for the core...it's not like the guys @ the parts store even looked (or cared for that matter)
