PICS IN A HOT SEC. COMP IT HAVING A CASE OF THE DOWNS.
Whats up:wazzup:? Well, like some others im new here. I'm of the military type out in the state of VA. For the longest time i was determined to grab a RX7 until i took a trip out to japan. During my time there I noticed two things 1) Skylines are everywhere....srsly 2) Japanese women are hot. That's just to more or less reassure the fact. one thing i did learn though is wtf a 240 was, and that a good majority of drifters use them there.

So back state side, I put my RX7 fetish to the side and set my sights on a 240. I ended up picking up a Silver 89 auto (first mistake) with 230K on it (second mistake) and a "blown head gasket" (third mistake ....im on a roll here) KA24E (SOHC FTW) an OK interior and some semi fresh tires. all of the bad aside I had no problem changing all the gaskets, and I just wanted to get it running long enough with an engine swap already in mind.

So long behold I'm ripping through all 230,000 miles of this thing. at first sight, the engine has seen way better days. I get to the intake manifold and it looks like this guy drove it through a fucking lake. No shit, i mean he must have gone scuba diving with this thing for a wight belt. I get to the cylinder head and set it aside. checked the pistons and cylinders and cleaned them up a bit, then cleaned all the parts i ripped off. As i pulled off the head gasket and saw no blow out, it didn't dawn upon me to check the head first instead of last. i flip that pos over to see a nice chunk gone from the 3rd cylinder. Thanks to the forums though, i already found a local replacement. already liking this place. time for the plans though.

So i plan to put a mid ranged budget into this thing to get it drift ready. 15K give or take. This is actually going to be my first build, so feel free to give your two cents from experiences all you want.

Plans
in order

Get this beast running (total engine maintenance) - waiting for head
Strip interior + perform cosmetics - in process
Grab some new seats
Engine Swap: RB26 or LS1
(leaning toward the LS, anyone have a reason for the RB?)
custom exhaust
Coil overs
replace+ install/new - bushings, struts, tie rods, sway bars
Grab some rims
S13.5 Conversion
Install Roll Cage
Supercharge this trick!
Replace rear end (if i don't destroy it first)

From there ill just go to my 600-700 RWHP goal.

Should be a wild time doing all this crap, someone make sure i don't destroy this thing in the process.

Thanks. I actually never looked at a 2jz. Ill check it out though, any advantages off hand?
Ill be sure to take picks along the way, and not with my phone like these ones.
I actually did consider a SR engine for a good amount of time. The two 240s i've seen floating around the area are sporting some so i decided i would take another route.
As for the tail lights. They were all good, but i went on vacation for a month and when i got back the right one had a hit on it. ill take a picture of it, you may still want it.
fixed the pic too.

KA24E:

Thanks for the welcome. Ill grab some more shots of the chassis when i get some time. I took a look underneath and its straight, also rust free which is always good. I was thinking the same on the swap as well, but a RB is still tempting and ill have to search some on this 2JZ.

Look like you got some work ahead of you. You only have one pic of the chassis but it looks pretty clean for 230k. As far as the engine, I say go LS. Better torque band, parts are easy to find, popular engine with lots of tutorials and DIY's and for your power range its the most logical engine choice. Given the choice between the 2JZ, RB and SR, I think the choice is obvious.
More pics, an welcome to the forums.
