i feel sorry for you guys, whats wit the KA!!??
ive been looking at this board for awhille and it seems to me that you guys are missing an important question.. its like everyones ingnoring the elephant in the room.
why does this motor make such poor numbers, especially with an intake cam and headers+exhaust??
i see alott of you talking about porting and polishing the head and not reaching a measly 200hp! there has to be a HUGE problem with headflow somewhere. when a massive increase in the breathing abilities of a motor doesnt translate into a huge increase in volumetric efficiency theres a REASON! im not a nissan expert but dumping near 1000 dollars into breathing ability without results means your missing something.
one thing ive noticed in the 240 world is that you guys dont pay that much attention to engine management. you all go nuts when i say that but coming from the f-body world, the general consensus is that a modded car without tuning is SLOWER. doesnt matter what you did to your car, cams intake whatever, anything that increases breathing without a corresponding increase in fueling means little to no power gain. an air filter does not increase efficiency enough that the computer cant compensate however anything deeper then that and your ecm might not keep up.
also these fuel computers that are common in this world are bandaid fixes at best, when you, in effect, lie to your ecm you're making things more complicated, and you will still be limited by the factory settings. custom tuning an ecm is the best way to go by far. KA-T.org has a great forum on this and nissan guys are just starting to tap the resource that f-body guys have used for a couple of years now, TUNERPRO, one of the finest tuning programs around. the program is free by the way, and the guy that created it is starting to get into nissan ECM's. there is also a tool thats been around for a few years called a prominator that allows you to tune your factory ecm in real time while the car is running WITH datalogging. tunerproRT even supports the prominator, look up the name mark mansur on google to find out more. i think the prominator runs for bout 500 dollars, i have yet to figure out how companies like AEM Greddy and HKS keep ripping off the import community, the stock ecms can be modded to do the same thing as a standalone for nearl 50% less cash.
theres no reason a bigger KA24 cant wipe the floor with the SR(KA has 25% more displacement, you think a stock turbo makes up for that?
). theres something thats not adding up here, find it and im betting you will find alott more power. also, yeah the sr is turbo, so what, it still puts out round 225 whp at best(stock). that's actually kind of puny considering how much people pay for the things. im betting that if you find your hold up which has to be in the head or in the fueling/timing you guys will be smoking SR swaps with 1500 invested in a KA. THINK!
