the 240 i just got has power windows that dont work and i heard from a friend that heard that it is probably the window switch and that it was common and i was just wondering if this was true or not and if not what is most likely the problem with the windows

if you can hear a click when you push the button for up/down then the switch is good.
if you dont hear a click then take the door panel off and make sure your window amp, switch, and motor are all plugged up and there.
if you cant figure it out, go to the junkyard and grab a few switches and window amps and put them in your pocket and go.

when i push the button down there is no click and i dont think its the hook ups cause neither side works and i was planning on going to the junkyard tomorrow anyway cause everything at my local u-pull-it yard is half off for the next few days

I know this is going to sound like a stupid response but I'm not trying to insult you. Make sure the window lock button isn't on. I only say this because I loaned my car to a friend once and he hit it by accident and thought he broke my power windows. You would think it only locks the passenger window but it actually disables both.

The power window amp. I just replaced mine yesterday with one that I got from a junkyard and now my drivers side power windows go up and down at the push of a button and not just intermittently like before.

I got similar problem...My window goes down just fine; but it wont go back up unless i pull it up with my hand while i push teh button. Once the window is closed, i can easily push it down....does this mean my window amp is bad?

yes i know i brought this thread up from the dead but i have the same problem that this dude has... but on the passenger side... and my drivers side doesnt go down period... when it comes down to all this wiring mumbo jumbo im a n00b...

^ I'm having similar issues. My passenger side is the "good" one (even though is kinda slide off the track). The driver side I can hear a click, but no movement...

you guys also have to check your window regulators, in most cars the regulator is a plastic spool with metal cord wrapped around it, alot of times it binds and breaks and will allow motion in 1 direction or not at all. something to look at.

HOLY SHIT! my car has none of that shit in there. And my friend pointed out that my door probably weighs about 1/2 of his. His 240 door is heavy. Mine is light. (could that because he has a 98 and i got a 96?

the problem I had with mine was carbon build up on the switch itself. if you can get the switch apart and a very fine grit of sand paper to clean the connections. If that doesn't fix it then it could be any of the problems suggested above.
Hopefully this helps

Sometimes it's the simplest things...
Not to insult you in anyway, but since I haven't heard anyone mention this yet, have you checked the fuse?
I had the same problem on my van the other week and I checked once before to see if it was the fuse, but it read negative.
Felt like checking it again several days later... and kaboom! there was the problem. Replaced a fuse and everything worked. Don't know why it didn't read the first time...

hey, I have the same problem, My window on the driver side wont go down. I took it apart and then i started to hit the button, and i hear clicks from that little box near the end of the door ( Im assuming thats the amp?) anyways I should just replace the amp? is that the case?
