come on guys. v8's beat 4 bangers in most departments, excluding weight. i have seen 3 or 4 240's powered by small block ford and chevy engines, they sounded mean, drove mean, and were DAMN fast. it CAN be done, it HAS been done, and its probably a feeling good enough to make you mess your pants when you sit at the tree against a chevelle SS or camaro with your little sport compact powered by a supercharged, NOS small block ford v8, and you eat his sorry ass alive. i still prefer a v8 over anything for speed. i like 4 bangers for the challenge of making them fast. they're in separate categories, and the 240 has a damn good frame for any kind of RWD setup you can THINK of. (dont take me up on that last one, it's a general statement *v12 vanquish engine :greddy: *)

*edit*- 240maniac, that "buzz" statment summed up everything i was thinking, and i broke out laughing when i read it. and if you guys think 4 bangers sound nasty, listen to mine. i have a semi-custom stock oe replacement header-back that a friend and i made so the car could pass emissions, and for kicks we threw a resonator on the end.... my car sounds badass from both inside and outside (the noise inside is a bit annoying when you have it at 3k and ur freeway driving, but its not bad otherwise) it dosen't have any horsepower gain, but it sounds reeeeally cool. i'll take a sound recording of it sometime and post it up.

i did not say he should pick one engine over another just because of sound. maybe unlike you. sound affects me. it is one of thoes mystical things about the love for cars. many car guys love the sounds of ceritan engines. if you call me a ricer for that then burn in hell.

I have had a stock 91 240sx, stock 5.0 Mustangs, a 306 nitrous fed Mustang that was a torque monster, 2001 ws6 Trans Am that runs 11's, a 1991 Talon with a 16g on 20lbs of boost, a 4 door family car, and now a 90 stock 240sx.
I feel like I have owned alot, a torquey push rod v8 with 300 NA horsepower is GREAT, and with juice is like sex. But on the other hand a 20 punch in a tiny turbo car on 20 lbs of boost is insanely AWESOME!
It all depends on you, if money isnt an issue for you go for the swap. You will surely turn alot of heads, and look at all the attention you will get. It CAN be done if you GOT the money! :thumbsup

Your stock LS1 motor will make around 290-325 horses, with a lid, cutout, exhaust, your looking at 350 or so.
On the other hand for that price your going to pay for that LS1 (the Lt1 is :nono ) You could get a cheap 302 block and have plenty of money to mod the Ford motor. Have fun and post pics! :)

dont call xracer a ricer he actually has a good taste in cars. i am completely against dropping a v8 into a japansese car. it ruins the spirit of the car no damn mixed breeds v8's belong in american cars and i4's and v6's are the limits in japanese cars IMO. compact cars have smaller efficient engines. to put a v8 in it makes no sense, so why dont u ******** go back to fishing with some dynomyte. and take your old carbs and shove em. well if you do it, it at least had to be efi. and you should eventually turbo it then i would like it, but no fuckin carbs

you guys seriously need to drop this import > everything mentality. the ls1 is a damn capable platform and will be way less stressed for a given output compared to a boosted motor. that means reliability. how many of you guys have actually driven vettes, maro ss's, and trans-ams? now take that instant surge of torque and plateau of a powerband, and put it in a car that weighs 1000 pounds less. sounds like a pretty solid idea to me.

I kinda off agree with Mtndrifters14 that Japanese motor swaps are better than american motor swaps for 240's

I like vette's and GTO but..

I mean who really cares about displacement when there crazy Japanese engines out there like the 2JZGTE, RB26DETT and RB30ET

Sure you will get a lot of power to the wheels from an LS1 swap but I would rock a 2JZGTE for ever more POWER!!!

2JZGTE :yummy owns LS1

thanks guys my point further proven. and to say that boosted engines are less reliable is not true. its all about fine tuning and balance. yea if you run 20psi on a stock bottom end all the time yes your motor will be screwed. thats not what reliablility is. the 2JZ's and RB's are some of the stongest more reliable motorts out there. what about the mitsu 4G63? that motor has been used and beaten to death. yes there was an issure with crank walk on ceritan models but mitsu has used that thing since the begining of time. why, because its reliable. boosted or not.

btw: so i guess everybody that like the sound of engines is a ricer... :greddy:

Ok Ill stop with xracer now, it was fun for a while. I still think the LS1 is a great motor. I don't doubt the quality and reliabilty of the Toyotas and Nissan I6's, there is one flaw with them, the price. You may have deep pocket books but I don't have lots of money to throw around just like the majority of tuners. Finding front clips of RB26's and 2JZGTE's are getting more and more expensive as it gets to be the motor that swappers prefer. You don't see them going for $4500 but rather $7000 for complete engine, ECU, transmission etc. If you want everything to be "trick", that doesn't include replacing the bottom ends, flywheels, etc which could double what you paid for the motor. Sure you will have a car that everyone will drool over, but really, you just spent money on a drivetrain which you could of bought a whole new car with. For that money you could build a mean LS1, and another 240sx for shits and giggles.

And what about the 4g63? You mean that Mitsu has been in the financial pits and couldn't come out with a whole new motor but only to improve and learn mistakes from the past? Of course they are going to be using the motor they know most about building, its economical and cost effective in development. And you just said that it was reliable with crankwalk? I don't think thats very reliable. :12dunno

I don't see why people hate V8 conversions. Your putting a high output motor in a light car. The power to weight ratio would be insane. And please don't give me this, "v8's don't belong in compact cars" bs. Lets take a look back and see what happens when you put V8's in compact cars: Shelby Cobra anyone? Swapping bigger motors into compact cars has always been there. I mean if you want to be a purist you shouldn't even throw a RB engine in a S13 or S14 because it doesn't "belong". You throw the weight off, handling goes to crap, bla bla bla bla. You could easily turn around and put the reasons you hate V8's into compact cars as I6's into compact cars too. I would love to see this:

Yep.
A Q45's VH45DE twin turbo'd. What I was thinking about when I posted earlier in this thread.

On a slightly off-topic note, new factory crated Infinity V8's on eBay for about $2000 shipped! Only if I had a Z car to drop it in.

^Nice pic

Yeah but V8's weight more bro.

what I said earlier, motors like 2JZGTE are builit proof and will kill an LS1 anyday, and they don't neccesary cost $7,000. I have seen front clips for 2JZGTE's and RB26DETT's for like $5,000

V8's weigh more, ok and it makes up for it in the power gains.

And a stock 2JZGTE will not "kill" a stock LS1 no matter how much you think it will. The LS1 will put down about 350hp while the 2JZGTE will only put down 320hp which is only reached when the turbos kick in. Now you say "Well a modified 2JZGTE will own the LS1!!!!11". Well thats kinda unfair comparing two motors with one which got a whole bunch of money into it and the other doesn't.

alum pushrod 8's dont weight that much actually.
you guys obviously havent been around many LS1's, a boosted one will rip the shit out of any moderately priced sub-3.0L setup.

okay 1st I am so happy someone brought up the cobra's yeah.. they were an english car with an engine swap look how nice those cars are.
second the ls1s do not weigh as much as you might think. its an all aluminum block.
third sure it would be neat to keep with the japanese engines but then i go down the road break something and say to myself ah shit I have to wait for friggin ever to find that part and import it. meanwhile the dealership around the corner can get the engine parts I need next day tops.

Look at the v8 Z cars.. god damn those are fast.
and to the guy that says that the 2jzgte will smoke a ls1, you are a complete fool. okay so you have this twin turbo 2jz engine.. okay fair lets add a twin turbo setup to the ls1 and do equal work to both.. wait what has more go.. right the ls1.. yeah look up banks turbo setups.
one of those would make you shit yourself.. infact I could never run one of those setups in my car because it would rip the front end in 2

A TT setup on a LS1 would be badass but how much will it cost you?

I didn't mean to consider a highly modded 2JZGTE vs. stock LS1 cause thats not competition there.

The reason I would take a 2JZGTE over an LS1.

1st. Being and I6 designed engine you will have way more room under hood of an s13 / s14 than that of a V6 / V8 design engine gives you. People like to put in 300zx TT engines in s13's /s14's but there is so little room left under the hood, adding bigger turbos is very limited. So for an LS1 motor which is bigger than a 300zx TT motor I would image it would have to have really small turbos to fit under the hood.

2nd. The 2JZGTE is a "bullet proof" motor. Its an Iron block, so is the RB26DETT. These blocks can hold way more boost than aluminum blocks.
Plus the 2JZ and RB blocks are made for turbos, I would say stock that are detuned race engines. How much boost do you think an LS1 can run without blowing the motor. You could aways build an LS1 motor so it can hold more boost but then that would cost way more than 2JZ or RB26.

I am not trying to argue with anybody on this thread. In think LS1 ones are great motors but just stating that in the long run a 2JZGTE will give you more power with a smaller investment than a LS1 swap.

yeah but see thats using modern technology. i just hate carbs, no carbs, that does look sick as fuck though. also its turbo, so if you put a v8 into a 240 i guess it would be ok as long as it was efi. forced induction wouldnt hurt either. i just hate to see people going back in time if you know what i mean. going from efi to a engine thats technology is 30 years old.
