Alright so I have always wanted a v8 240 and have finally gotten around to building one.

Im starting this thread to show the progress of my build and to hopefully gain as much info/help I can get from you guys and to also keep myself motivated.
Im currently driving a KADET hatch and have picked up an 89 coupe in great shape that I will be dropping a 1UZ into. I will be bolting on a KADE trany since they are cheap and easy to find around here. I will be picking up a 2000 lexus LS400 1UZFE once I figure out all the parts I will need. All this will be done in my tiny crappy garage..

From the research I've done, these are all the parts I will need;

1) 1UZ to 240sx ebay mounts
2) Trany adapter plate for KA trany
3) Toyota 3v or 5v flywheel
4) Turbo mr2(3sgte) pressure plate
5) SR20DET clutch disc
6) 4age flywheel bolts
7) Pilot bushing

I have read that this swap can be done for under $2000 and I would like to put that to the test lol. $2500 is closer to what I expect to spend though. The complete engine in looking at is selling for $800:dancingna

The things I still need to find/figure out are pressure plate, flywheel, pilot bushing. Once I have everything figured out I will start making orders for the parts. Does anyone know where I can find the MR2 turbo pressure plate?

Here are a few pics of the car so far

Might have to jump other forums or go new for the clutch setup. Not many people do the swap because of the custom needs. What are you doing about the exhaust system? $800 for the motor is going to kill your budget.

And, what in the hell size wheels are you running on the other car? Poking it's ass off.

Thanks,

The wheels are hammer heads 15x8 -42. My hatch really needs some flares or widebody.. or both lol

I have already made an order for the complete kit from collinsadapters.com. The kit includes everything needed to install and run the 1UZ. The only things I will still need to do is wire the harness and do the exhaust work. So $1250 for the swap kit and $350 for my 1UZ motor and it comes out to $1600 + exhaust work. This has to be the cheapest v8 swap out there...

Here are a few pics of my build as of now. I have cut and welded metal in place of the great rust spots on the shock towers. Ive got all the surface rust cleaned out and bondoed and sanded. Next will be primer followed by a high gloss white. I think white engine bays go well with V8s:dancingna

Hopefully within a week from now I will receive the package from Brett Collins and I'll start getting the swap underway.

Since the front end is already off this car, im thinking about putting an R32 front end on her:lol:. Let me know what you guys think! I know its far from being a direct bolt on.

The swap is great because you can use the ka trans and ds. That's huge savings indeed. Looks like you have more fab skill than most, which goes a long way with something like this swap and/or an R32 front. not my style, but if you like it go for it.

My only issue with the swap is the aftermarket or lack thereof. With an LS you could just slap a cam on it or an LS6 (I think) intake and get the extra power. Much harder on the 1uz. Can't say I haven't seriously considered it though.

Im subbing this bc this is the swap I want to go with so I want to see your progress. Idc about aftermarket that much and i love lower displacement lighter weight motors so this makes sense for me. I will be watching.

Just curious. What are you doing about wiring? The mechanical side of it is straight forward. Everything seems to just bolt in the part im stumped on is the electrical. I have searched for days trying to find answers but havent found anything definitive.

Hopefully a local guy will be doing the wiring for me. This is basically all the wiring info I have so far.

I actually found a few more things and I wish you were deeperbin so you could test some theories. Lol im in the research and planning stages right now. I need to get my parts still. It doesnt appear to difficult. I need to crawl under the dash in mine and look at some things but im thinking the tach and temp and fuel gauge will be easy. The speedo runs thru the stock computer to the dash so im wondering how to wire it up. Unless someone knows or knows thst it doesnt.

Maybe someone can clear that up for me. Does the speed sensor signal run thru the ecu to the dash, or thru the dash to the ecu? The latter makes everything real simple so hopefully so.

Edit***** from my reading it seems that it goes...

VSS -> SPEEDOMETER -> DASH CONNECTOR-> ECU

Thats good news in my opinion. Seems that means the speedometer will be super easy to have working and accurate if using ka trans.

I didnt really look into the wiring too hard yet. I imagine he pinouts are similar between the sc400, ls400,gs400. I have to pickup a 1UZ next weekend and im leaning towards picking up a 91 LS400 for $700. The thing looks like it just rolled off the line. Its got 238xxxk on it though. I will check it out and do some tests on it
