Hey ladies and gents, I was just browsing autoweek and came across this bad boy. Its kinda too retro for me, but Im interested to see what the Dodge boys will do to make it a 20-30K Mustang competitor. Its obviously bassed on the 300C/Charger platform, just shortened, AND it will have a 6.1L Hemi. I hope it doesnt weigh over 3500LBs, but you never know.

I just wish it was alittle more modern.

The Chargers right now weights 4000 LB plus sadly, its actually a really big car.

Unless they lighten the shit out of it, they will only make it a good competitor if they make it have lots of HP. And the prob. with that is it will be way over 30k. And if they reduce the price with cheap materials the car will suck ass. Break down just from looking at it.

I hope they lighten it.

i bet it will be in the same range as the GTO... about 3750 lbs and 35k-40k and maybe 500hp?... i dunno.. the 6.0 LT1 has 400hp.... so you never know.

i want one.
as long as it isn't over 3500lbs and not made by daimler/chrysler....hahaha

and then they'll give it that damn "hemi"...which isn't a lot like the old hemi....which actually was a cool engine....

Its alright, with all these new aged muscle cars comming out it almost makes me laugh with how heavy they are making them. Motor trend just had a shoot out with the new srt8 charger vs the 06 gto. both have over 400 hp, gto weights like 3800 and they srt8 is 4250.. both cars cant break into the 12's.. almost sad if you ask me. definitally need to shave off a few pounds...i prefer my light car

back to thread subject
that challenger is hot, but i think the shaker hood would really sell it.

Don't the grill and taillights looks really small (narrow) compaires to the car? They only seem like they are 5 inches tall. I dont like how long and skinny they are...and muscle cars are supposed to be heavy. Big Engines, Big Cars, Big HP.

the taillights were kinda small on the original challenger/cuda.
the grill looks fine, but then again, i like that styling a lot.

that makes me happy. It's nice to see a remake of a car that actually resembles and does credit to the original. The new GTO made me sad... im a mopar guy, and the new charger made me even more sad, but the new challenger makes me happy again. Since i was a kid, my dream car was always a 71 challenger, white w/black interior. I still like the original better, but i'd definately drive that.

looks good, but i'm still sick of these things...

chrystler is headed down the path of GM.

"let's make EVERYTHING we make uber fast and powerful! reliability? quality? PFFT!"

* 2 years later *
"Oh shit, we're 'too big' and need to close factories that have always been there and cut jobs."

in reality, GM could just make a few quality cars and rebound completely. but no way, they're just trying to make america into the "buff cars!" days, with complete disregard to what consumers want. sure, the idea of a 700hp corvette beating a ford GT is enticing, but not to everyone... chrystler is doing the exact same thing now, throwing a hemi in everything...

coming soon: '08 Dodge Neon: HEMI EDITION (6.1 litre v8)

and then there's the little american company, ford, sitting in the corner, building cars people actually think are worth buying... hmm... "reliability? gas mileage? good selling points." chrystler and GM are headed to hell if they don't pick up some common sense and make real, practical vehicles. now don't call me partial, my dad owns the sweetest purple/black roadrunner in existence, and i've always had wet dreams about owning a Super Bird, charger R/T, challenger, chevelle, and even was considering an older 'dart for a while. i'm just pointing out that GM and chrystler need to start following Ford's example and start making some REAL cars in addition to these cool little sidejobs, or there won't be any more little sidejobs... though, ford needs to slow down with the retro theme and start goinf progressive, like they've always been. good job on the new 'stang, it brought the stallion back to roaring glory (now actually DO something with that 5.3 litre v8, crank it to 400 PLEASE.... and dump that live rear axle, make it independent) but now change is in the air.

still, that's a goddamn clean recreation of a classic muscle car. i'd drive it any day of the week.

Funny you say that, in the new issue of autoweek (I think the same one as the Challenger) it has a Jeep Cherokee with, you guessed it, a 6.1L Hemi with 420hp and 420-lb-ft and weighs 4788lbs. It goes 0-60 in 4.9 sec! I mean what kind of soccer mom needs that. It also gets 13mpg. It is cool that you can buy a porsche fast jeep, but who is going to buy it? It is rediculious that to sell cars, you have to put an engine that 5 years ago would have been called unreal in most sports cars. It is almost rare to find a car with moderate hp numbers these days. 99% of the time people use 20% of there cars max hp. It doesnt take a 250hp Accord to get a family to go 80mph on the freeway.

Well A. thats just one engine option for the Jeep B. if someone ends up buying your 6.1 liter Jeep instead of a Cayenne Turbo isnt that good for your buisness? I can imagine Jeep projected only selling a small amount of the SRT cherokee. BESIDES there are plenty of cars wiht moderate hp #s out there, if you want big HP with new cars you're going to have to shell out the green, thats the way its always been.

okay hemi history here

old school hemi's had pistons that looked like an upside down U

that hemisphereical piston and matching the head cause NO turbulance in combustion so it had very low compression

now the new ones have dips on each side of the upside down U so they can create turbulance in cumbuston to create power with out shitty compression and horrrrrrrrible emissions
