According to an article with Carlos Ghosn in this months CAR magazine, the 2007 GT-R will be marketed world wide and will have a biturbo V6 and adaptive ride suspension.

No word on hp, pricing, or looks though.

someone please tell me what's wrong with a V6?
no it's not an I-6, but what's so bad about having slightly better gas mileage (I-6's use more gas than V6's when similarly compared)?

Nothing wrong with a V6, but the balance and smoothness of an I-6, combined with the room it leaves in the engine bay for mods, and durability of them....I much rather have one. We have one in our IS300 and now one in our TrailBlazer hehe..

An I6 would mean more room in terms of engine bay width and cheaper mods since you wouldn't need twin parts(2manifolds,pipin etc. . .)

But the vq series imo is the most refined and smootest(strength and refinement are 2 different things, i.e. rb's are thier strongest ofcourse)series of engines nissan has ever produced imo even if it isn't an I6. Just driving a 350z told me that. What a marvelous powerplant.

A heavy one at that though, it's the reason why the z doesn't feel happy in low speed handling and complex cornering and it's the reason why thier isn't anything around it other than learning how to deal with it(i've always told people this, when you drive one and if your the type of driver that can sense things right away you get the feeling that it would take more than weight reduction and suspension to fix it) read the latest scc where they took a z and stripped it from front to rear, replaced the windshield and liftgate(yes the liftgate and window that it holds) with lighweight plexi, suspension, bars and did some other stuff. They removed a hell of alot of weight.

You can still have a balanced car with a v engine though ofcourse but I doubt it will be.

There are cons to having an I6 and pro's to having a v engine.

I6's are long engines and v6's are usually half of an I6's length, a v6 is usually shorter than most I4's also. You can have a shorter front end, shorter hoodline, shorter car overall with a v6 as opposed to an I6 where you'd have to design a car's lines to accomadate the long block. Now before someone mentions rb's into 240sx's, Rwd cars that have I4's usually swap well with I6's because you only adding 2 more cylinders anyways and cars with rwd I4 layouts tend to have the classic longhood frontend design(240sx,miata,s2000etc. .) so thier's always extra room. If you can make the front end shorter than you can increase overall interior room especially in a coupe configuration where you could adopt a cab forward design.

The negative thing I see about a v6 is space to work in terms of width under the enginebay and the priciness of mods and quite possibly a noseheavy car.
If you can afford the new gtr, you could probably afford the mods anyways.

I'm predicting that pricing will be double of what the z is.

Pricing will be in the 70K range and will be sold under the Infiniti brand name...and no...it will look nothing like that pic. The suspension is going to be tuned by Lotus, a couple prototypes have been running around for the suspension (using a G35c shell).

when was the first time that inline 6's were adopted in the skyline ?
From the beginning......
Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R :
In 1969 the first generation Skyline "GT-R" was introduced to win the JAF Japan championship. The GTR is powered by S20 L-6 1989cc DOHC 4valve with 40PHH Solex carburettor that makes 160PS. Top speed is 200km, and 0-400m is 16.1 seconds. In 1970, the 2-door coupe GTR was introduced. The driving performance has also been improved by having shortened the wheel-base and lightweight-ized. The interior of the design unified black was equipped with bucket seats and 6-meters. The KPGC110 GTR which is called 'KENMERI' is GTR of the phantom by which only 197 units were produced. The KENMERI GTR carried on with the S20 24 valve L-6, along with its 160PS. Also the GTR is equipped with a exclusive black grill, FRP over fender, and 4-wheel disk brakes.

either the writer of that article is a buffoon or the mentioning of M5 at the end of that article makes me a bit weary of what type of car this new gtr will be.

Pfft nvm, just the thought of lotus tuning the suspension makes me think otherwise. I think he's a buffoon.

Well you gotta remember that the automtive division of Lotus isn't doing to well right now. The division entered the market making suspension so thats what they do best. If they can contract a suspension deal out to a big time automaker for an icon car, it will surely bring in big profits for Lotus.

Why are you saying this? Maybe you misinterpreted me. :12dunno
