Bob already listed two of the ones I was gonna say... All three are great info forums for those engines.

Probably b/c they're the only engines that use apex seals.....

:D

And they don't blow apex seals that easily unless the person building the engine doesn't know which seals to put on the rotors to suit their application. But then you run into problems with port sizing and whatnot...and thats a whole nother story.

nopistons.com served me well.

yea the apex seals do wear alot faster and are more prone to braking..(but id rather have it brake and have the pieces shoot out the exhaust port and not have it damage the internals of the motor then have them not brake and cause serious damage to the housings..)

yes, they called it a rotary because the internals rotated inside the block while creating the combustion instead of an up and down motion and the rotating crank.

"just look at my sig" :)

Yeah, I found out I was 1/3 German the other day. Pissed me off.
I was perfectly happy being 1/2 Brit 1/2 Cherokee. Now I have a triple dose of liking alcohol, a double dose of loving dark beer, a big freakin' dose of loving cars and driving like a maniac.

Shit. I'm doomed to be a car nerd the rest of my life.

Ok, back on topic.....

Thats probably good.
I drank enough for all 4 of us (you, Calton, Bob, me) last night. Damnit, I hate it when dark beer tastes so good....

Damn....I'm nothing but Off-Topic lately....

Enough for me!? Did you rob a Bud truck or something!? :eek4:

Thats probably good.

Also, on your above post Alan... It is true that rotaries make no torque without forced induction and a good tune. But they are pretty decent at spooling up turbochargers. Not as well as some rotor-heads might believe but still pretty decent nonetheless. Because the motor can actually flow like a 2.6L (not a 1.3L like most people believe...). Then again this is a pretty vague post. I had a website that had a NICE article on rotaries. Let me see if I can find the link. It was a pdf file that I have saved, but can't remember where the link is. I'll post it when I find it...

ok so lets get a lil discussion going:

1. torque curves are way better with a rotary engine right? it doesnt have that much peaks
2. turbo lag is decreased right?
3. a 4 rotor rotary is similar to a v12 right? because 1 rotor ignites 3 times during 1 revolution and since there are four of them that makes it similiar to a v12 i guess

1. Power curves on both ends are smoother. But rotaries (iirc...and its been a while, so don't quote me on this) don't have as much torque period....unless you boost and get a good tune.
2. Turbo lag is the same. Big turbo on small engine = lots of lag. You can avoid this w/ properly sized turbo housings and timing adjustments, etc.
3. In theory yes.

you can get a "junker" short block that needs a rebuild for a few hundred. or if your lucky like i was and pulled a running motor from a friends convertible that was going to get towed for no registration for free.. :happyfing

still havnt had the time to tear that block apart and "tinker" with her yet. :dancingwt

I want one too. Mainly for automotive decoration in my room...lol.
I've got a wallpaper on my laptop of a cutaway 13B...and frankly, it would look cool as shit if I had a whole one part of one sitting somewhere in my room. Hell, it can go with my Hoosiers off a 996 and 997 that I use for a lamp table.

I just wanted to clear up a misconception the rotary engine still has a good amount of torque (I drift with mine) but its just the bottom end below 4,000rpm it has virtually no torque. The turbo in mine does help a lot but it only pushes 6.5 psi. It starts spooling at 2,000 rpm's and gets me to my power band thats about the only function of the turbo. And like everyone else was saying before the apex seals are still durable in all honesty you could almost compare them to the piston rings you over boost and they blow, if you don't maintain your engine they blow, and if you're dumb they can blow
