im looking to do a swap within the next year. and out of my curiosity. im wondering what the hype is about the CA. i mean the SR puts out like 30 more hp's. is it just the originality of it? or the potential?

:edit:

which would be more practical if your not trying to blow a vr-4 off the line, just to give all those kids who think bigger is better in there american cars a run for their money. or their car.

HYPE? WTF theres no hype in the CA, if there was HYPE about the CA then your question would actually be like CA vs. Sr why does everyone like the CA over the SR. I seriously suggest you research and dont get a CA18DET leave the one your thinking about buying to someone who knows why they want the CA since they are becoming harder to find. Just to spoon feed ya a bit. The CA produces 175hp 30 less than the SR, but slap on the same turbo the SR has and you produce the same figures, amazing huh. Also the CA is a better designed motor its solid takes a beating and asks for more.
Heres a thread. http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=128056

again research.

Ive always seen the majority go for the SR swap to be honest. In my area theres around 5 SR 240s and a RB25 240. I thought about going with the CA but then looked at the motors and mostly were high miles and would have been best to rebuild them. So i went with the SR that had alot less miles and is in perfect condition so far. You cant go wrong with either one IMO. If i dont go KA-T with my other 240 im gonna get a CA for it.

Just think , just another option though. redtop sr set is what 2300 . get a ca set for 1200 and spend 1000 on internals. Then you'd already be a step ahead.

edit: but i'd rather everyone leave all the ca's for me :rotflmao

everybody does go for the SR. and the CA is something a bit different that most people rule out when it comes to a swap. and from what ive read a CA would do me better in casual day driving, as well as taking it out on the weekends and such. and its a grip cheaper
casual driving is more based on the turbo and mods you select. Both engines are great for daily driving. :thumbsup

damn its like a kid in a candy shop. so hard to decide.

could you just throw on a s14 t28 and be in the same hp range as a stock sr? i heard they were direct bolt ons too
Yeah it's direct bolt-on. I have a GTIR T28 on my CA. But a 3 inch turbo back on a CA should put you in the same hp range as the sr. :thumbsup

doing internals correctly will cost you more than a grand. head gasket, arp head studs, pistons, rods, bearings, oil pump, etc.. then machine shop fees...

im looking at about 750 for my rebuild, and thats with reused my pistons rods crank etc. just getting new oil pump, rings, bearings etc for bottom end and thensome head work...

I know exactly what these threads are for, people who can't do their own research.

BTW, opinions win races.
True story.

and if you want my opinion, I like the sr better than the ca (simply for the displacement) and I like the ka more than the sr (boosted designs sells a built longblock for 2 grand) but as long as you put a turbo on your car, with either engine, you will be pleased.

well i can say ive done plenty of research. not so much on the ca ill admit. and thats why im here. forums are just another way of finding out the "scoop" on things like this. and by labeling people as "trolls" and making them feel inadequate enough to leave the forum, your only limiting a persons knowledge on such topics. and i dont think thats very right. or fair.

btw. if all you guys get on this thing and read all this everyday. you should look into getting out more.

and i dont think youll be that lucky either. but youll learn to love me.

Do I look new here or some thing? I know why I'm here and what I'm doing, it's you who's looking north and pointing west at the moment. Why don't you go ahead and break it down for me then "Mr. I have done my research" and tell me some differences between the motors you are currently picking from.

Hurry up now, I grrabbed a beer and I'm ready to learn some thing.

no you dont look new at all. i never suggested that. and i dont doubt you know what your doing. thats why im posting topics. to hear what people that "know what their doing" have to say in response to my questions. i just wanted some casual conversation about motors so i can decide which i would like to put in my car. and what is it to you if i have or haven't done my research? are you the president of the "sr has more displacement than ca" club?

and im sorry i just joined this forum. if i could change the past i would have joined yyyears ago.
